Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a full-time, one-year fixed-term faculty position at the rank of Lecturer-AT in the Department of Human Physiology for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Program and Position: Vibrant, growing, undergraduate human physiology program (with approximately 230 students) seeks a faculty member to teach primarily in the areas of exercise physiology, and anatomy and physiology. Gonzaga University is located in Spokane, WA, which has approximately 540,000 residents in the metropolitan area. Spokane is located in the heart of the Inland Northwest, serves as a major medical hub for the region, has multiple institutions of higher learning, and offers a variety of outdoor opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • D. in Physiology or other related discipline. ABD considered, with the expectation that the candidate will have degree in hand by August 1, 2022.
  • Teaching experience at the university or college level
  • Evidence of skills in technology applied to classroom and laboratory work
  • Demonstrated record of successful research
  • Record of supporting students with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Demonstrated knowledge about cultural competence in academic settings

Desired:

  • Experience advising undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds and experiences in the academic community.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Teach 20 credits per academic year in the Human Physiology program. Teaching assignment will include exercise physiology (with labs), human anatomy and physiology (with labs), scientific writing and/or other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise or as assigned by the department chairperson to meet departmental needs
  2. Potential to act as academic advisor to ~10-15 Human Physiology majors
  3. Academic citizenship: Active participation in departmental activities.
  4. Professional development: Ongoing engagement with the discipline is expected.

  • List of courses the candidate is interested in teaching in the current Human Physiology curriculum and articulate how their area of expertise complements that of the department's current faculty
    • Candidate should also articulate one new course they might develop in their area of expertise
  • Sample of scholarly work (e.g., copy of one peer-reviewed publication, abstract accepted for conference presentation, or similar)
