Job Description:

The Research Coordinator III position described here will be responsible for coordinating research activities of two to three funded studies related to school mental health services, health disparities, and youths’ mental well-being under the supervision of Joni Williams Splett, Ph.D. in the School of Special Education, School Psychology, and Early Childhood Studies in the College of Education at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). The research coordinator III will provide leadership in the daily management of a newly awarded study funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and support other closely related funded research projects as needed and available. The new, five-year study will evaluate the effectiveness of School Based Mental Health enhanced with universal screening and equity enhancements on the referral and receipt of school-based mental health services and disciplinary encounters of African American/Black students. Dr. Splett also has funded school mental health research from the U.S. Department of Education and National Institutes of Health and the person filling this position may support these studies as needed, as well as other grant proposals and research dissemination to advance the team’s research and maintain the team’s funding success. The position will join a team of faculty, postdoctoral research fellows, research scientists, graduate research assistants, and undergraduate volunteers at UF and collaborating sites across the nation focused on the PCORI award and Dr. Splett’s funded research portfolio. Successful candidates will demonstrate motivation to manage these projects, professional interest in advancing skills, and commitment to growing the team’s research portfolio. This is an experienced, professional level position, ideal for candidates with established careers in project and research management. The position is twelve-month, time-limited, with an initial appointment for one year. Continuation of the appointment is contingent upon the availability of funding and satisfactory performance in the position. This position is time-limited.

Project and Research Management
  • Assist PI to track and facilitate all study activities.
  • Lead the development of all research manuals and protocols, assess protocol feasibility, and makes changes as necessary.
  • Manage evaluation and data collection activities in coordination with project investigators and study staff, including data collection scheduling, qualitative interviewing and transcription, online survey development and administration, response tracking, entry, cleaning and preparation for analysis, and descriptive summary presentation using research-related software.
  • Coordinate and support intervention implementation as needed.
  • Coordinate and, as needed, conduct qualitative interviews with school personnel.
  • Educate partners, staff and postdoc on study protocols and monitors compliance.
  • Coordinate regular communication with and between project investigators and personnel across sites.
  • Coordinate regular communication between the Patient Stakeholder Advisory Board, Engagement
  • Coordinator and all study staff.
  • Communicate and coordinate evaluation activities with school and district leaders, including grant-funded personnel hired by study districts
  • Draft, edit, and review IRB and other regulatory study documents, such as consent and recruitment documents, as well as IRB protocol, cli.
  • Maintain relevant trainings for this position and funded studies, including IRB, university, and federal regulations and policies.
  • Maintain research space, files, computers/equipment, and software licenses.
  • Maintain cooperative, collaborative working relationships with project leaders and personnel across sites, including grant partners in schools. Visit school sites as needed.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of study website and social media sites.
Grant Administration Tasks
  • Coordinate communication with subcontracted institutions.
  • Monitor study budgets in relation to scientific goals and communicate with project personnel regarding expenditures.
  • Manage distribution of research incentives, patient/stakeholder payments, consultant fees/stipends, and other study expenditures as needed.
  • Prepare and coordinate sponsor and related reports and monitor reporting requirements.
  • Assist with development, management, authorization, and transmittal of extramural research proposals including budget preparation.
  • Provide pre-award support including reviewing requests for proposal and identifying the specific requirements and policies are met while ensuring they are within or consistent with those of UF.
  • Review proposals and resulting extramural awards for compliance with sponsor and University terms and rules
Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination
  • Supports development and delivery of dissemination opportunities including publications, seminars, workshops and conference presentations.
  • Supports continued engagement of all study stakeholders including study school personnel, project investigators and personnel, advisory boards, engagement staff, study participants, and data collectors.
  • Coordinates advisory board meetings and other stakeholder engagement events

Expected Salary:

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience managing research projects that are conducted in applied settings, such as public school systems.
  • Experience working in schools and/or with school mental health practices and interventions.
  • Experience working with/engaging diverse racial/ethnic, socio-economic, educational, and sexual-gender families and youth
  • Demonstrated appreciation and ease of working with a culturally diverse team and organization.
  • Familiarity with grant submission (pre-award) and administration (post-award).
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with data collection and management software (Qualtrics and/or REDCap) and project management software (e.g., Asana) a plus.
  • Adept at using technology to manage social media and websites on computer browser and mobile devices
  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, organization, communication skills, ability to work independently, manage and delegate to a team, prioritize and manage multiple competing demands, meet deadlines, anticipate and identify conflicts, and flexible thinking to solve problems quickly and calmly.
