INTRODUCTION:

The James R. Connor University Center at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a UC Program Coordinator for Events (Student Affairs Program Coordinator - Events).

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position serves as the primary advisor to the UC Programming Board. Work includes event contract negotiation, budget, logistics, staffing, marketing research, event advising, and student staff evaluation. Additionally, this position serves as Co-Advisor to the Homecoming Steering Committee, including 2 student interns and a committee of 12-22 students. Collaboratively plans and implements training for UC Programming Board. Participate in planning and implementation of training for University Center Graduate Assistants (5), and Student Employees (100+). Serves as a staff member in UC Student Activities and Involvement. This position requires a mix of day and evening hours based on office and event staffing needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Departmental:

1. Plan and implement major events sponsored by the department. This includes co-advising undergraduate Homecoming Activities.

2. Lead collaborative efforts for University Center Welcome Events (2/year).

3. Serve on various University Committees, including: Integrated Programming Committee, Warhawk Welcome, and others as assigned.

Advising:

1. Direct supervision over Student Programming Board (8). Indirect supervision of Departmental Interns as assigned.

2. Co-advise the Homecoming Steering Committee (12-21) and co-supervise the Chair and Vice Chair interns in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of departmental homecoming events.

Programmatic - UC Events:

1. Advises student programming board regarding weekly UC entertainment programming.

2. Annually requests and oversees Programming Board SUFAC allocated budget ($89,100) including budget request and hearing participation, following purchasing protocols.

3. Manages administrative and programmatic functions, oversees social media, advises students in selecting and implementing entertainment events relevant to UW-Whitewater students.

Programmatic - Campus Wide:

1. Creates and encourages use of Campus Wide Planning Calendar for collaborative planning and transparent communication to students.

2. Creates and implements event management & emergency protocols for student events.

3. Serves as liaison for campus opening activities, collaborates with campus and external partners.

4. Advises student organizations in safe and successful event implementation, creating successful relationships between UC staff and event hosts.

5. Serves as Student Activities & Involvement Rep to weekly Building Use meetings.

6. Maintains financial records; works collaboratively on purchasing and student payroll issues.

7. Completes other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

1. General supervision received from the UC Assistant Director of Student Activities & Involvement.

Supervision Exercised:

1. Direct supervision of the UC Programming Board (8); Homecoming Steering Committee Chairs and Committee (12-22); as well as functional and/or administrative supervision/advising is exercised over student employees and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor degree

2. 1+ years of experience in organization advisement at a college/university setting or work experience with collaborative event planning is required

Desired Characteristics:

1. A master’s degree is preferred and related work experience preferably in higher education

2. Experience supervising student employees

3. Teaching experience

4. Experience working with multicultural (underrepresented race/ethnic) and disadvantaged (first generation, low socio-economic status) and underrepresented populations

5. A commitment to student development issues, teaching ability and the ability to assess student needs and develop programs to meet those needs

6. Sensitivity to students and an ability to relate on many different levels to the diverse student, faculty/staff, and community contacts this position encounters is also essential

7. A successful candidate will show commitment to the institution and evening and weekend hours will be necessary

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual of $40,000 - $46,000 .
