The expected salary for this position starts at a rate of $19 per hour. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. Job Summary:

The Center for Technology Enhanced Nursing in the UW-Madison School of Nursing (SoN) is seeking an experienced, self-directed, dynamic colleague to join our collaborative team. The Center for Technology-Enhanced Nursing (CTEN) is a 5,000 square foot space that includes 4 skills labs, 2 assessments labs, a simulated hospital environment, a simulated clinic environment, and a simulated home environment designed to offer students opportunities to explore and learn the role of the professional nurse in a variety of unique care settings. CTEN utilizes a variety of technology including high-fidelity full-bodied simulators to create active learning activities that promote the development of nursing clinical judgement and prepare students for professional practice.

The CTEN Lab Technician will assist the Center for Technology-Enhanced Nursing (CTEN) team and nursing faculty to implement the simulation and skills laboratory curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students. This includes the use of a variety of simulation and patient care equipment and supplies, as well as computer-based instruction tools and programs. This position assists with room set up and turnover, equipment maintenance and inventory supply management.

Responsibilities:

Performs routine support in a laboratory to support diagnostic or research work. May calibrate and maintain equipment and creates and/or updates records. May handle administrative and logistical tasks.
  • 30% Uses, maintains, calibrates, and sets up lab equipment and apparatuses according to established policies and procedures and documents activities
  • 10% Coordinates and participates in a variety of routine technical duties by providing assistance to research and/or laboratory staff in testing and experiments
  • 5% Performs quality control, acknowledges documents, performs document reviews and/or writes and revises documents as assigned
  • 5% Completes and acknowledges trainings
  • 30% Sets up, prepares, and cleans laboratory glassware, instruments, equipment, and laboratory work spaces
  • 20% Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and conducts routine inventory updates
Tasks:
  • Assist with room and equipment set up, room turnover, mannequin set-up and take down, application of moulage, and recording software in nursing skills and simulation labs.
  • Collaborate with CTEN team and faculty to help create learning activities and determine appropriate space, supplies, and equipment needs within CTEN.
  • Work with simple to complex technology (equipment and software) which includes operation, programming, and conducting updates/upgrades to CTEN technologies (e.g. scheduling software, LearningSpace, simulators).
  • Collaborate with CTEN team to ensure optimal use of CTEN resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provide basic training and technical support to faculty, students, and staff on CTEN equipment and technology.
  • Assist with scheduling CTEN skills and simulation activities.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and functioning in relation to manufacturer/vendor recommendations.
  • Conduct maintenance of CTEN equipment, including cleaning and repair, and ensuring that all equipment is maintained and in good working order.
  • Assist with simulation activities in CTEN.
  • Maintain appropriate safety and hygiene standards.
  • Maintain required documentation related to laboratory activities.
  • Serve as a resource for students and faculty by responding to questions and requests related to CTEN space and equipment.

Qualifications:

* One year experience as a nursing assistant with medical surgical hospital experience preferred
* Experience working in a fast-paced experiential teaching/learning lab and/or simulation environment preferred
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills, customer services, and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively in a team; ability to work with faculty and students across undergraduate and graduate programs to assist with learning activities
* Excellent coordination and prioritization skills; ability to keep track of supplies, and equipment inventories
* Working knowledge of computer software used in support of teaching in a clinical setting
* Comfortable working with a variety of training equipment and technology used for nursing education
* Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and to adapt to a shifting variety of duties, and a commitment to quality customer service
* Biomedical certification preferred
* Ability to bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds

License/Certification:

Preferred
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant

Work Schedule:

The CTEN typically operates Monday thru Friday from 6:30am to 5:30pm and core work hours within this time will be set for the incumbent upon hire. However, work hours will need to be shifted to meet operational activity needs. As demands of the CTEN increase, occasional work in the evenings or on weekends may be required. When flexibility is necessary, scheduling will be discussed in advance with the supervisor.

It is anticipated this position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location and has been designated as a position that is essential to School of Nursing operations.
