Position Summary

The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for providing BI solutions for The Office of Development and University Relations (DAUR). This individual will provide expert-level, demonstrable experience working with Power BI and Power BI Report Builder. The Developer will support ongoing demand by designing and maintaining complex queries and reports using DAUR data sources that include, but are not limited to, DAUR’s enterprise CRM (MS Dynamics 365) and data warehouse (Blackboard Analytics). The Developer is expected to have a minimum of four years of experience delivering high-quality data visualizations and interactive reporting and have excellent attention to detail pertinent to data quality, visual aesthetics, and the overall user experience. The Developer will also work closely with subject matter experts to elicit business analytics requirements to meet business needs. The Developer will report to the Senior Director of Advancement Systems and Analytics.

 

Essential Functions        

Operational Management

  • Responsible for Power BI development and administration.
  • Designs, codes, tests, and documents all new or modified Power BI reports. Maintains data flows and datasets.
  • Enhances and maintains existing Power BI reports.
  • Performs requirements gathering and analysis: design methodology, testing, documentation, and deploying report solutions.
  • Develops visual reports, dashboards and KPI scorecards using Power BI desktop.
  • Creates paginated reports using Power BI Report Builder.
  • Connects data sources, imports data and transforms data for Business Intelligence.
  • Collaborates with key functional stakeholders to better understand their business domain, processes, and data.
  • Assumes other responsibilities which might include but are not limited to progress and status reporting and use of project and requirements management tools.
  • Designs and delivers end-user training and training materials; provides technical support as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots BI tools, systems, and software; performance-tunes these applications as necessary.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the data warehouse to ensure interoperability with reports.
  • Performs other duties as needed or required.

 

Strategy & Planning

  • Assesses and cultivates long-term strategic goals for BI development in conjunction with end-users, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participates in BI project planning process to establish business requirements, define deliverables, conduct data analysis, and establish timelines.
  • Stays up to date with the latest developments and trends in data analytics.

         

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, finance, or other business-related field.
  • Four or more years of business intelligence development experience.
  • Expert-level, demonstrable experience developing data visualizations, dashboards and reports with Power BI and Report Builder.
  • Excellent understanding of DAX queries and experience in SQL query writing in MS SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Experience with BI development best practices such as agile methodologies, source code control, prototyping, and testing.
  • Experience writing complex DAX queries and writing SQL queries in MS SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent in analytical thinking for translating data into informative visuals and reports.
  • Expertise in using advance level calculations on data sets.
  • Able to develop tabular and multidimensional models that are compatible with data warehouse standards.
  • Able to properly understand the business requirements and develop data models or work with the Data warehouse team on data modeling.
  • Knowledge and experience in prototyping, designing, and requirement analysis.
  • Ability to incorporate new features and techniques as released by Microsoft.
  • Able to integrate Power BI reports into other applications using embedded analytics like Power BI service (SaaS), or by API automation.
  • Good knowledge and experience in understanding of logical and physical data models.
  • Excellent client support and training skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing environments and multi-task.
  • Must be detail and process-oriented.
  • Possess a collaborative working style and the ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting BI technology in higher education or non-profit institutions, especially in advancement/fundraising teams.
  • Knowledge of industry trends including data mining, visualization and predictive modeling.
  • Data warehouse analysis and design experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior-level management and providing one-on-one coaching and training delivery.
  • Experience creating and maintaining SSRS reports.
  • Experience working with MS Dynamics and/or similar CRM systems.
  • Knowledge of Ellucian CRM Advance data structures.
