Job/Department Summary:

Working under the general direction of the FYE Director, the program coordinator performs highly complex Student Services professional work including the ongoing development of public sphere pedagogy programs, and the oversight and evaluation of student mentors and event staff. Employing teams of student staff members, FYE produces large-scale public events embedded in a variety of first-year courses and employs peer mentors who are embedded in u-courses and support student engagement and success. Incumbent uses highly developed communication skills and personal contact to develop creative solutions, and provide leadership, guidance and supervision of student teams who facilitate events and serve as peer mentors. In particular, this position will focus on developing, delivering and coordinating training, overseeing ongoing work, engaging in ongoing academic and professional counseling and development, and evaluation of student staff. The Program Coordinator works with the FYE faculty fellow and faculty in collaborating departments to provide event design and implementation that meets pedagogical goals across the General Education curriculum. The Program Coordinator facilitates academic programming that is essential to the retention and persistence goals of the university, and works to engage students utilizing an equity lens and asset framework. The Program Coordinator assists students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives and provides important learning experiences, which supplement those in the classroom, and encourage students to utilize the knowledge, skills, and abilities learned during their university careers.

Mandatory Vaccinations:

The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be fully immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
  • Master's degree, in a job related field.
  • Demonstrable understanding of social pedagogies.
  • Experience with qualitative assessment.
  • Experience with event production.
  • Experience supervising a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
  • Desirable experience also includes some training in conflict resolution.
  • Fluent written and verbal multi-lingual/bilingual skills.
Required Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
AND
Three years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.

Time Base: Full-time


Pay Plan: 11/12 (June off)


Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm

Salary and Benefits Information:

$4,300 - $6,126 per month / $51,600 - $73,512 annually (New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning of the salary range)
