Sr. Portfolio Manager- CIC Grants

About the Opportunity

Northeastern's Center for Inclusive Computing (the CIC) was launched in 2019 with funding from Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation firm of Melinda French Gates, to increase the representation of women earning degrees in computing. To date, the CIC is working with 56 partner schools, representing ~ 25% of computing graduates nationally. In pursuit of our mission, the CIC engages in the following activities:

1. Grantmaking: We offer two types of grants to colleges and universities committed to improving the representation of women graduating with degrees in computing.
  • Implementation Grants support the implementation of evidence-based approaches that have been shown to quickly and significantly increase the representation of women.
  • Diagnostic Grants support the collection of institutional and demographic data to help schools develop a better understanding of where they are losing and gaining students.

2. Program Management and Technical Assistance: We collaborate with senior computing faculty who have firsthand experience implementing changes that have led to significant increases in the percentage of women. These Program Managers and Technical Advisors provide guidance on the implementation of interventions at partner schools.

3. Data: The CIC supports partner schools in collecting and analyzing data, disaggregated by gender and race/ethnicity, on enrollment, retention, persistence, and graduation.

4. Peer to Peer Learning: The CIC convenes grantees in learning sessions to talk to peers at other institutions and exchange learnings from their implementation efforts.

Responsibilities:

The Sr. Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing one of the CIC's two portfolios of grantees - those receiving Implementation Grants. Currently, the CIC has 22 Implementation Grantees and projects increasing this by 10 or more grantees in 2022. The Sr. Portfolio Manager oversees every aspect of the grant process, including doing outreach, designing and managing RFPs, reviewing applications, conducting site visits, managing all other aspects of the due diligence process, and then designing and ensuring execution of grant agreements.

Once grants have been finalized, the Sr. Portfolio Manager is responsible for working in collaboration with the program manager and technical advisors (who are computing faculty with expertise in BPC) to track progress against milestones, making course corrections to work plans as necessary, and providing additional resources to grantees where needed. This includes overseeing the process for annual progress reports, quarterly portfolio reviews and working with the Managing Director on reporting to funders.

In addition, the Sr. Portfolio Manager oversees all CIC's communications, including website, newsletter, press releases, and social media, as well as white papers and other such documents related to the CIC's vision, mission and strategy.

The Sr. Portfolio Manager reports to the CIC's Managing Director and works closely with the Executive Director, all technical advisors, and the other members of the CIC staff.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of work experience, preferably with some experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering a quality experience for clients
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong relationships with both internal and external clients, confront and resolve challenges
  • Ability to work with, organize and make sense of complex data and information
  • Demonstrated communication skills, ability to transmit the mission, vision, and results of the CIC and its partner schools through various media and platforms (email, web site, newsletter, social media)
