About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Roux Institute seeks a Manager of Community Partnerships to build strategic community partnerships to support the institute's mission to drive economic growth in the state of Maine and the Northeast. Our goal is to leverage our partnerships, our people, and our academic work to empower Mainers to use data and technology for positive change in their lives and communities. To achieve that goal, we want to hire a new team member to cultivate community partnerships, develop programs, and coordinate efforts across the Institute.

The Manager, Community Partnerships will be responsible for engaging key community stakeholders and internal working groups to design, implement, and evaluate engagement programs that increase access, awareness and utilization of Roux strengths for impact in the community. While the Institute expects its community partnerships to grow and evolve with input from our stakeholders, we anticipate that the portfolio will initially include a significant focus on partnering with organization that can increase awareness and access, including K-12 education organizations and organizations that work with groups that are typically underrepresented in higher education and STEM fields.

The successful candidate will be passionate about developing partnerships to achieve the mission of the Roux Institute. They will possess the ability to communicate the vision partnership and to see that vision through execution.

This role reports to the Head of Partnerships & Strategic Initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess many, if not all of the following skills, dispositions, experience, and qualifications:

General:
  • A commitment to Maine and its people and the ability to cultivate positive relationships across lines of difference
  • A risk-taking, entrepreneurial, and self-motivated mindset
  • A sense of humor and enthusiasm
  • B.A. required


Relationship and Idea Development:
  • The ability to establish and maintain relationships with a breadth of people, including the c-suite at partner organizations
  • The ability to develop novel collaborations leading to value for both the partner and Roux/NU
  • The ability to communicate a strategy for each partner rooted in partner goals and aligned to the Roux Institute mission
  • The ability to advise partners about the best ways to engage with the Roux Institute and the wider NU network to achieve common goals


Execution Skills:
  • 4+ years of experience in program management, relationship management, strategic planning, program operations, and/or special projects or related field
  • Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills to strategize and prioritize to meet goals and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to write clearly and concisely (e.g. a program overview document)


Preferred Skills, Experience
  • Experience in applicable organizations, such as those focused on STEM education, community advocacy, and other related community organizations
  • Salesforce
  • Project Management


Travel Requirement
  • You will be required to travel, mostly regionally, to meet with established and potential partners


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Build and Maintain Relationships
  • Develop, track, and manage relationships with a broad base of constituent organizations in the state
  • Build strong support for Roux locally and regionally
  • Create new partnerships with community organizations/leaders to support collaboration between the Roux Institute and the local community


Serve as a resource and liaison between members of the Roux Institute's community and the external community

Execute a portfolio of programs with partners
  • Engage, manage, and grow partnerships with community stakeholders and organizations to drive the Roux Institute's community engagement goals
  • Assess community needs and recommend programs/initiatives to meet identified areas of demand
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to implement and strategically align projects and initiatives
  • Work closely with colleagues across the University to develop our programs and offerings.
  • Be an expert in our current offerings and consistently seek to learn about new opportunities that can be offered to partners.


Provide essential insight into what partners want and need to the Institute which will drive the development of new offerings.

Operations
  • Conduct general research and analysis regarding active and potential partnership areas
  • Oversee and coordinate internal working groups related to community engagement, local needs, and DEI initiatives
  • Develop an infrastructure to sustain and grow the Roux Institute's community engagement mission


Identify trends and issues related to community engagement that can advance the greater community needs

Storytelling and Reporting
  • Implement best practices in Salesforce.
  • Diligently record, analyze, and report to leadership on the status of partnerships, related initiatives, and what you are learning about your partners and their needs.
  • Provide benchmarking data and reports to aid partners in achieving their goals.


Tell the story of the partnerships you manage through data and narratives.
