Assistant/ Associate Professor of
Communication
The Department of Communication at Marian University’s main campus seeks a teacher-scholar with expertise in one or more of the following areas: rhetorical studies, media, or strategic communication (public relations). This tenure track faculty appointment will teach courses such as New Media and Digital Culture, The Rhetorical Life, and Public Speaking. Expectations include contributing upper-level courses to concentrations in Strategic Communication, Creative Media, Multimedia Journalism and/or Community Leadership. Candidates with experience leading a PRSSA chapter, advising student media, or coaching speech and debate may receive release time for those activities or other program leadership roles. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher and mentor, demonstrated leader, and a charismatic ambassador for the university. As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity.

Responsibilities:
- Teaching load: 24 credits per academic year
- Share in the ongoing development and implementation of department and college activities and projects.
- Actively participate in curriculum implementation and activities of the Department of Communication
- Maintain an active scholarly agenda
- Mentor students through advising, internships and service learning opportunities in the community.
- Participate in the life of the campus and university service, including participation in faculty governance and co-curricular programs.
- Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
- Ph.D. in Journalism, Media Arts, Communication, or a related field preferred. ABD candidates considered.
- Evidence of teaching excellence
- Experience working with students at varying levels of abilities, is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work independently with colleagues throughout the university and in the community.
- Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence, best practices in teaching, high ethical standards, diversity, and community service/engagement
