Sr. Instructional Technologist

CTE seeks a Senior Instructional Technologist who will develop strategies to support, manage, and implement innovative technologies across a broad range of educational programs and initiatives at the center. Reporting to the Program Director for Learning Design and Innovation, this individual provides expert guidance in the configuration and management of the center’s learning management system (LMS) and other technologies supporting online learning.

As a Sr. Instructional Technologist, this individual is responsible for ensuring workflow coherence among teams using various learning technologies to administer programs, conduct trainings, and deliver learning solutions. In this role, the individual is adept at leveraging proven expertise and experience in LMS management, system efficiencies, and current accessibility standards to address learning and business requirements, solve technological problems, and develop innovative solutions to enhance the online learning experience.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Instructional Technologies

  • Develop strategies to optimize the configuration of the LMS to meet identified center and program needs
  • Perform needs analyses and implement solutions for identified program requirements
  • Create processes and protocols to streamline various use cases for the LMS and other learning technologies
  • Coordinate custom platform integrations with internal teams, external vendors and contractors, and university IT teams
  • Investigate technological issues and develop solutions to resolve or ease learning experience stress points
  • Lead strategic planning efforts to ensure that the use and implementation of all learning technologies comply with established security and accessibility standards
  • Track LMS development roadmap and system upgrades through consistent communication with the vendor’s customer success, product development, and technology support teams
  • Manage end-to-end migration of learning objects, dynamic web content, and complex workflows between multiple learning platforms
  • Write user guides and technical documentation for developers, content editors, auditors, and other user roles interacting with the LMS and other learning technologies
  • Develop training on center protocols and industry practices in learning technologies and accessibility standards in online learning
  • Make recommendations for emerging technologies, trends in learning experience design, and accessibility standards for online environments
  • Conduct periodic maintenance, quality assurances, usability, and accessibility checks for the LMS and other learning technologies

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and School of Education (SOE) instructional technologists and instructional designers on university guidelines and best practices in learning technologies and accessibility standards in online environments
  • Collaborate with the instructional design team to implement cohesive technology use across all learning platforms and initiatives
  • Collaborate with the frontend development team to implement code to support custom user interface designs within the LMS and other learning technologies
  • Collaborate with help support teams to develop and implement end-user support processes

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience, and additional experience may substitute required education to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.*

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in instructional technology with direct experience performing the key accountabilities
  • Expertise in learning management systems and learning technologies
  • Fluency in configuring, exporting, and importing SCORM packages
  • Fluency in content authoring software (Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, and web-based content authoring tools)
  • Fluency in using and providing end-user support for software and tools
  • Extensive experience in online environments, web development (HTML and CSS), software applications, and web applications
  • Extensive experience in developing technological solutions to solve problems
  • Experience with LTI and RESTful APIs

Starting Salary Range: $53,020 - $72,930 annually (commensurate with experience)
