The Department of Elementary and Special Education in the College of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Instructor of Elementary Education for the 2022-2023 academic year. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

The Department of Elementary and Special Education is committed to preparing educators who work collaboratively with public school partners, who are dedicated to preparing teacher candidates to work effectively with diverse populations of students, who prepare teacher candidates to be reflective educators, and who use current research to inform their educational practices. The College of Education is accredited by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Elementary and Special Education, the one-year Visiting Instructor of Elementary Education position requires teaching undergraduate courses in elementary education; supervising field-based experiences; working in partnerships with area schools; modeling effective teaching practices; using instructional technology; and performing service within the department, college, University, and community. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments, with the possibility of reappointment based on funding availability and satisfactory performance for up to two years. The second year is a terminal year, without exception. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned master's degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field by August 1, 2022.
  • Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience with PK-5 students.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the supervision of student teachers, practicum students, and/or mentorship role of novice teachers.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in using technology in instruction.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

    Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
  • All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
  • Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
  • Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
