Job Summary

The Patient Service Center Representative will provide quality and consistent service to patients who call in to schedule medical appointments, coordinate procedures, or make payments. Ability to multitask is essential.

Essential Functions
  • Answer calls on a multi-line phone system in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Accurately gather patient demographics and insurance to set up a patient's account.
  • Perform insurance eligibility verification.
  • Schedule patients accurately and completely and offer appointment alternatives when needed.
  • Triage calls for medication refills and other related clinical calls to the correct work pool in the EHR.
  • Collect and post patient payments for outstanding balances while complying with all Payment Card Industry standards and internal University policies.
  • Participate in outgoing call campaigns or patient outreach activities.
  • Various clerical duties, including but not limited to assembling new patient packets, updating patient registrations, as well as scanning prior patient records.
  • Manage interaction from the patient's point of view.
  • Ensure and respect patient/family confidentiality through compliance with HIPAA and applicable internal University policies.
  • Accommodate the diverse needs of our patients and families.
  • Ability to work with closely with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to change and meet unexpected needs and demands. Must be accountable, dependable, independent, motivated, punctual, reliable, and flexible. Must show excellent work ethic and maintain honesty and integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of experience in customer service environment, preferably in a high volume administrative or healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Excellent speaking voice – proper grammar, diction, enunciation, and tone
  • Excellent listening and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in PC use and applications such as MS Office 365
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of third-party payors including Medicare and Medicaid plans
  • Prior experience using third-party payor websites for verifying insurance eligibility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Call center experience preferred
  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Working knowledge of EHR and patient scheduling systems; Epic preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Typically sitting at a desk/table
