CAREER SERVICES ADVISOR - GRANT FUNDED (DOD-STEM)

MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College (MXC) was awarded a three-year grant from the Department of Defense through its National Defense Education Program. MXC’s initiative, “Advancing Opportunities for Women in STEM (AOWS),” is designed to expand, enrich, and diversify the pipeline of STEM professionals, invigorate STEM learning at the College, and prepare graduates for careers and continued education at four-year institutions.

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Career Services Advisor - Grant Funded (DOD-STEM). This role will manage job placement services for College to Careers Cluster students and graduates for the purpose of student recruitment, retention, and employment placement assistance.

Malcolm X Career Planning & Placement provides comprehensive services and resources to help you make informed decisions about careers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Ensures that all College to Careers Cluster program participants and graduates receive aid in seeking employment and advises program participants regarding career opportunities and prospective employment. Establishes annual objectives based on market trends and recent results.
  • Accountable for C2C related metrics including employment as assigned by CCC administration.
  • Contacts employers to develop job leads and career opportunities for College to Careers Cluster program participants. Arranges for employers to visit College to Careers Cluster facility to discuss personnel needs and interview graduating students. Maintains current job listings on file. Provides information to employer regarding current, former and graduating students.
  • Develops and maintains key metrics and data regarding placement of graduating students. Maintains files of placement credentials of College to Careers Cluster students. Establishes records of students, alumni referrals and referral results. Establishes mechanism for assessing employer satisfaction with the quality of graduates as part of the interviewing process or initial evaluation of early on the job performance. Is sensitive to confidentiality between the employer and the employee/graduate
  • Develops a career library for students, faculty and staff for use as a resource in placement activities. Coordinates annual career fairs; assists in new student orientation and provides input for the school newsletter.
  • Develops and conducts training programs related to career development, resume/letter construction, interviewing techniques and effective job searchtechniques. Develops a program involving employer presentations, field visits and student internships.
  • Prepares reports and key assessment data regarding results and outcomes. Compares outcomes over time and by program. Establishes and maintains tracking and reporting processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Personnel or Business supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student/career services in higher education, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful management and leadership. Previous experience in training and development.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well as a team player.
  • Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the future goals of the District. Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Must be computer proficient with knowledge of a variety of software programs.
