VOCATIONAL LECTURER - SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY

Malcolm X College is currently seeking Vocational Lecturers to teach Surgical Technology. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage the students in critical thinking and problem-solving. They will also have a passion for teaching and learning along with a strong commitment to the missions and ideals of the community college.

The Malcolm X College Surgical Technology program prepares competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. This program is dedicated to providing Surgical Technology students the knowledge and skills required to provide quality patient care in an ever-changing healthcare environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
  • Maintain office hours for advising, mentoring and coaching students. Development and revision of courses and instructional materials as necessary.
  • Post syllabi and grades
  • Proctor students in a hands-on lab setting
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess an Associate’s Degree or higher and National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) approved credential in Surgical Technology
  • 2 years of experience in the operating room or as a Surgical Technology instructor, or a Combination of both within the past 5 years.
  • Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar Learning Management System, preferred
  • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification is strongly preferred
  • Scholarship work, publications, committee work, and other relevant work is highly considered
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students, required
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college
