Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist oversees non-exempt employment functions including recruitment, compensation and job evaluation. The HR Generalist will guide the process from the creation of a job description to the offer stage, acting as a consultant for managers and primary recruiters.

Essential Functions and Qualifications:
  • Serves as a consultant and resource for hiring managers and primary recruiters throughout the recruitment and hiring process for non-exempt staff searches.

  • Oversees recruitment marketing activities for non-exempt positions by developing advertising plans, utilizing social media, posting positions and collecting all materials.

  • Responsible for posting all open positions (faculty and staff) at specific external and internal websites. Maintains required documentation of advertising in search files.

  • Works with the Associate Director of Human Resources and the Assistant Director of Talent Recruitment to develop training resources including job aids and short video tutorials on Workday Recruiting and established protocols and best practices in the recruiting process.

  • Responsible for non-exempt and part-time position creation and maintenance in Workday. Performs job analysis to determine position classification and reclassifications according to FLSA and University standards. Manages job descriptions in Workday, working with managers to write, approve and revise descriptions to attract strong and diverse applicant pools.

  • Utilizes available salary survey data to market price non-exempt positions. Market prices new positions and reviews data for existing positions. Partners with the Assistant Director of Compensation Programs to complete professional organization salary surveys related to non-exempt positions such as CUPA-HR Staff, APPA (Facilities) and NACUFS (Dining).

  • Determines appropriate internal and external salary offers and promotion increases for non-exempt staff, and part-time positions. Uses the pay policy as a guideline, in addition to considerations such as campus equity, market comparisons, and the confirmation of experience/educational requirements.

  • Generates non-exempt employment letters in Workday including: offers, job changes, promotions and transfers.

  • Assists the Assistant Director of Compensation Programs with the deployment and processing of the University’s annual salary increase process.

  • Supports the onboarding function during heavy onboarding of new employees. Ensures pre-employment paperwork is complete prior to start date. Communicates with new employees and managers to keep them informed throughout the process.

  • Coordinates pre-employment testing.

  • Posts promotion announcements in HR Campus Connections.

  • Supports human resources team in planning and executing university-wide recognition and workforce development programs and events.

  • Additional related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Human Resources certification and experience in human resources, non-profit management, or educational administration are preferred. The ability to build collaborative relationships and develop rapport within HR and across the university is critical to the incumbent’s success. Proficiency with MS Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and a strong knowledge of Workday HCM, or a willingness to actively learn Workday HCM, is expected. Must have the ability to prioritize work, and manage multiple tasks and projects. The ability to communicate both orally and in writing with tact and sensitivity while maintaining strict confidentiality is critical.

Physical Requirements:
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Working Conditions: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Types of Work: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Minimum Pay:

$52,505.00 - Pay Commensurate with Experience

The university requires employees to become fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and new employees must provide proof of at least their first shot prior to the first day of employment. Boosters are required. Individuals may seek a medical or a religious exemption to the vaccination requirement.
