Job Summary

The Professional Research Assistant will perform all procedural duties required to support research processes in the MBEAM Laboratory. These duties may include review, management, and maintenance of equipment and inventory, general maintenance, planning and reconciling of research project personnel and budgeting, writing papers, and creating reports.

Who We Are

In the past decade, AMReC has gained a worldwide reputation as a leader in the development of analysis and design methods for coupled multi-field problems, particularly in the context of aeroelasticity. The methods pioneered by AMReC faculty have become standard tools in academia and industry for analyzing complete aircraft configurations. This work is complemented by the development of high-performance parallel computing strategies. In past years, additional focus areas have included the development of models and design methods for multi-functional material systems and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). The latter two research areas are considered to be key components of next-generation technologies in aerospace, mechanical, and bio-medical engineering.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Manage all operational aspects of the research group, including management of facilities, fees, and equipment.
  • Proactively make recommendations about the physical and electronic organization of all aspects of the MBEAM Laboratory, storage facilities, and office space, and take an active role in maintaining the research organization.
  • Provide support to Prof. Minton in the preparation of papers and reports.
  • Take an active role in the resolution of all research related issues involving effort allocation and management of students, post-docs, and staff members in the MBEAM Laboratory.
  • Take responsibility, along with Prof. Minton, in the protection of all export-controlled information in the MBEAM Laboratory.

The salary for this part-time position is $27,000.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Excellent organizational skills and have good attention to detail.
  • Accuracy, precision, critical thinking skills, efficiency, and trustworthiness should be part of every aspect of the position.
  • Able to maintain a highly professional image when dealing with people, including the diverse international engineering and scientific community of authors and reviewers, as well students, post-docs, and university staff.
  • Excellent telephone and English composition skills are strongly desired.
  • Comfortable with the use of computers and be experienced with the use of standard Microsoft software products, such as Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with chemistry and the terminology used by engineers and scientists, the kinds of equipment used in a modern physical chemistry laboratory, and name recognition of as many important people in the fields of physical chemistry and hypersonics as possible.
