CPR INSTRUCTOR

Job Description: CPR Instructors are responsible for planning and teaching American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid courses along with planning and conducting employee training courses and exercises.

Location : Cary Street Gym & MCV Student Larrick Center

Supervisor: Mathew Scott

Starting Pay Rate: $17.00/hour

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Be familiar with and teach American Red Cross courses in the instructor led and blended learning format
  • Effectively use course materials and resources, including course presentations, curriculum manuals, course outlines, and the American Red Cross Learning Center
  • Conduct all assigned classes in accordance with the American Red Cross requirements and Instructor Code of Conduct
  • Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives
  • Ensure the health and safety of the participants by making sure all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and all materials and equipment are safe
  • Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of progress
  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
  • Complete records and reports in a timely manner
  • Assist in audits, evaluation, and hiring of RecWell staff
  • Participate in instructor development meetings and training sessions
  • Create and utilize lesson plans for trainings and meetings
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to participants
  • Develop appropriate participant/instructor relationship
  • Be enthusiastic and have fun
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Safety Coordinator or Program Assistant
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge and application of CPR/AED and first aid skills
  • Thorough knowledge and application of teaching strategies and techniques
  • Understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with adults and youth
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to adapt to various situations that may arise while teaching
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Maturity & professionalism
Required Certification(s):
  • Must have at least one of the following American Red Cross instructor-level certificates and corresponding base-level certificate:
  1. Lifeguarding Instructor
  2. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor
  3. Basic Life Support Instructor
  4. First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
  5. Emergency Medical Response Instructor
  6. Wilderness & Remote First Aid Instructor
  7. Advanced Life Support Instructor
  8. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor


Preferred Certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire) :
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer & First Aid base-level
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor
