Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries is seeking to hire a part-time Computer Operations Technician. This role provides front-line support for staff and public computing, study rooms, and AV systems in the Libraries. The position will be responsible for fielding support tickets and assigning tickets as needed for more complex issues, fielding computer equipment, and performing routine maintenance and upgrades of library software and hardware. Normal work days are Monday-Friday and will work approximately 25-28 hours per week.

Qualifications:

Required:
•Basic experience in IT support
•Ability to work in a diverse environment
•Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve personal computer problems and printer problems
•Demonstrated interest to field, maintain, and secure Windows and Macintosh operating systems for either staff or public computing environments
•Working knowledge of AV components for web conferencing and issue diagnostics
•Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong customer service attitude, good analytical skills, attention to detail and organizational abilities
•Awareness of desktop enterprise management tools such as Active Directory, DeepFreeze, AntiVirus Suites, MECM, remote systems diagnostic tools (Beyond Trust, etc) Encryption tools, VDI, JAMF Pro, and Ghost
•Demonstrated knowledge of computer circuitry, components and PC architecture
•Working knowledge of common office software applications and web browser troubleshooting
•Demonstrated strong self-learning ability and independent problem solving
•Ability to distinguish between hardware, software, AV, and network problems, with expertise to recognize and correct interaction of various components
•Ability to lift upto 50 lbs

Preferred:
•Progressive experience in IT support
•Working knowledge of state procurement policies and procedures
•Working knowledge of LAN administration (Active Directory, Ethernet, and TCP/IP standards and topologies)
•Associate degree in information systems, computer science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
•MCSA or MCSE
