Job Summary:

The Food Applications Kitchen Assistant will be part of the Center for Dairy Research on the UW-Madison campus, in Babcock Hall, assisting our scientists, researchers, sensory coordinator and food technologist in our Food Applications Kitchen. As part of the CDR communications team, this position will prepare ingredients and samples for tasting, testing, recipe development and events, organize and manage supply inventory, maintain proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures and be the point person for the proper use of the equipment and supplies used in the Food Applications Kitchen.

Responsibilities:

Prepares food and completes related tasks according to quality and safety standards to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals.
  • 20% Performs routine food preparation activities such as portioning, chopping food, and serving food to customers
  • 5% Assists and guides student workers
  • 10% Prepares a variety of basic dishes such as sandwiches and salads, and assists in the preparation of more complex dishes
  • 5% Greets customers, answers questions, and provides basic information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • 20% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • 20% Adheres to federal, state, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • 10% Assists instructors in preparation for and during training sessions, workshops, demonstrations, and events
  • 10% Organizes and manages supply inventory in the Kitchen Lab

Qualifications:

Required: Food safety experience/certification, or willingness to learn and be certified
Preferred: Culinary experience

Work Schedule:

Employee will be scheduled between 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. Hours will fluctuate weekly depending on scheduled courses/events. This position is expected to begin at 50% FTE but may increase based upon need.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
