MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, HEALTH & WELLBEING

Job Summary:

The Director of Marketing & Communications, Health and Wellbeing, will lead communications for the health and wellbeing theme area within Student Affairs, which is comprised of University Health Services (UHS) and University Recreation & Wellbeing (RecWell). The health and wellbeing theme area is focused on connecting all students to primary prevention programming, world-class recreation and wellbeing, and evidence-based practices to support their overall health and wellbeing.

The position will report to the Chief of Staff for Health and Wellbeing. The Director will collaborate closely with communicators across Student Affairs and with campus partners to amplify the strategic priorities and initiatives of directors at UHS and RecWell. The Director will have oversight of two dynamic teams whose aim is to share effective, relevant, timely, and accurate public health and wellness content for the UW Madison campus community. In an evolving shared service collaboration, the Director will also lead the integration of Marketing and Communications teams of UHS and Rec Well, where each unit will remain autonomous while improving strategic alignment and efficiencies to advance student health and wellbeing. Direct reports from UHS include a graphic designer, two communications specialists, a multimedia designer (video and photography); and from Recreation & Wellbeing, an Assistant Director of Marketing, who supervises a multimedia designer and communications specialist.

University Health Services (UHS) at The University of Wisconsin Madison celebrated its 110-year anniversary in December 2020. UHS has been voted, by students and The Princeton Review, a top student health center for the previous five years. An integrated health center, UHS provides high-quality care to more than 100,000 annual clinical visits, including medical and mental health services. In a typical year, more than 50 percent of 48,000 students use our clinical services. Ninety percent of undergraduates will utilize clinical services during their time at UW Madison, and all students participate and benefit from our prevention services. Recreation & Wellbeing serves all students on campus and offers community memberships. With more than one million visits to their facilities each year, RecWell offers a space for people to build a movement of healthy habits through inclusion, education, innovation, and connection. RecWell opened their new facility, the Nicholas Recreation Center, one year ago, and construction is underway for a new westside facility, the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center. Responsibilities:

Directs communications strategic planning, and execution. Provides approval and guidance for communications including staffing and budgetary planning in support of communication goals.
  • 25% Develops, implements, and monitors strategic communication initiatives for designated audiences and internal stakeholders to maximize engagement and strengthen collaboration efforts
  • 25% Identifies, establishes, and directs media relationships and partnerships with internal and external sources
  • 15% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revived operational policies and procedures
  • 20% Audits and directs day-to-day operational plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives
  • 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
