The salary range for this position is $49,900 – $62,400 . The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Position Summary

The Marketing and Outreach Coordinator develops and executes the overall strategy for marketing, engagement and communications efforts at MSU Denver Campus Recreation. This position oversees the design, coordination, development, production and distribution of print, video, digital and promotional materials to support Campus Recreation’s programs, facilities, events and services. They are responsible for effectively branding and communicating the Campus Recreation message to the MSU Denver community and other stakeholders; and recognizes the importance and growing role of social media and digital engagement.

This position is the liaison between Campus Recreation and both academic and student affairs. They will foster positive relationships with faculty and staff to develop applied learning experiences and increase awareness. Additionally, this position will manage and administer department promotional and special events, on and off campus information fairs, orientations and recruitment opportunities. They will recruit, train and supervise a support staff of student marketing and communications employees. This position reports to the Director of Campus Recreation.

Duties/Responsibilities

55% Marketing
  • Create content that is inclusive and reflective of MSU Denver’s diverse audience, with the goal of increasing departmental awareness and engagement, particularly with underrepresented student populations
  • Design captivating, scalable graphics for print and digital consumption promoting the department and its programs, events and activities; occasionally on short notice
  • Assist in the development and lead the execution of social media strategy and content management, while responding to trends and developments
  • Write, edit and proofread information for release in campus literature including, but not limited to newsletters, student handbooks and visitor’s guides
  • Take and edit high-quality photos to be used in marketing campaigns
  • Record, edit and publish high-quality videos featuring in-person and virtual events in addition to promotional content
  • Work closely with University Communications and Marketing ( UCM ) to ensure all internal and external communications, including promotional items and campaigns are consistent with the MSU Denver brand.
20% Outreach
  • Responsible for hosting Rec Fest and providing a departmental presence at Fall Fest, Spring Fling, Wellness Fairs, Job Fairs and Open Houses
  • Develop a Street Team responsible for making campus connections through tabling and flyering
  • Work with program areas to implement campaigns to educate the campus community about the links between wellness and academic success
  • Collaborate with academic departments to provide applied learning experiences
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, UCM, University Advancement and external organizations to advance the mission of Campus Recreation
  • Produce, implement, manage and track print and digital advertisements for Campus Recreation services, programs and events to the community to increase membership sales
  • Connect with current and past participants to increase interactions and engagement
20% Department Support/Administration
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate a diverse student marketing staff to administer and manage all marketing, public relations, technology and events
  • Assist with facility supervision as needed
  • Prepare a marketing & communications annual report complete with user data, student evaluations and interviews and university collaboration efforts
  • Attend regular meetings with the department and your supervisor
5% Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, marketing, marketing strategy, exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, health promotion, higher education, sports management, nutrition or related field
  • 2 years of demonstrated marketing and communications experience (graduate school work acceptable)
  • Experience developing electronic and multi-media marketing content
  • Experience coordinating/managing multiple simultaneous projects
  • Proven software proficiencies in Adobe CC (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Lightroom), WordPress, Hootsuite, or similar platforms
  • Possess a current First Aid/ CPR / AED certification or can obtain one within 30 days of start date

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and strategies
  • Knowledge of video editing and livestreaming software (i.e. Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, OBS )
  • Knowledge of DSLR use and eye for photography
  • Experience in providing marketing services for a collegiate recreation department and/or auxiliary unit on a collegiate campus
  • Experience training and developing staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work collaboratively across many departments
  • High energy, team-orientation and customer-focused with a passion for excellence
  • Highly organized with a self-directed approach to work
