POSITION TITLE:  Faculty – Computer Science

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science Bachelor’s with 2-5 years of teaching experience on the undergraduate and/or graduate levels;
  • Certification in different programming languages and scripts desired;
  • Updated knowledge about new technologies and requirements;
  • Good communications skills and ability to transfer knowledge undergraduate students in a diverse learning environment;
  • A team player with the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students;
  • Ability to strengthen the Computer Science curriculum for undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Good interpersonal, planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Candidates with expertise in all core CS areas are sought, with preference being given to candidates who could complement and enhance current department strengths in the areas of data science/machine learning/artificial intelligence, and cyber security.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strengthen the Computer Science curriculum that will prepare students for jobs in the field.
  • Engage with a diverse student body. This diversity includes ethnicity, country of origin, educational background – many are the first in their family to attend college, and age, to name a few.
  • Teach a wide range of Computer Science courses including most or all of the core subject matter at the undergraduate level.
  • Advise Computer Science students.
  • Participate in departmental activities such as curriculum development, assessment, outreach, etc.
  • Develop and continue ongoing research activities, service, and leadership.
  • Develop and teach online courses;
  • Participate on departmental and university committees;
  • Engage in scholarly activity as prescribed by departmental and university guidelines;
  • Possess the knowledge, talents and skills in the discipline to promote effective teaching;
  • Demonstrate respect for the diverse learning needs of students;
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement curriculum objectives and course content;
  • Demand and maintain high standards and expectations for all students;
  • Implement teaching activities and a diversity of teaching techniques, procedures, and resources including application of technology;
  • Develop and implement evaluation and assessment techniques that are appropriate for each course;
  • Use multiple measures to assess student learning on a regular basis and provide frequent feedback to students relative to their performance;
  • Be available and knowledgeable and demonstrate proficiency in the practice of academic advisement of students;
  • Conduct appropriate research and scholarly or creative activity within the discipline;
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with a diverse population, including but not limited to women, minorities, and veterans.

SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION 

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Jarvis Christian College Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 

  • Nine (9) month position
