Assistant Director of Athletic Performance

Grizzly Athletics invites applications for an Assistant Director of Athletic Performance . The University of Montana Athletic Performance program is committed to serving student athletes with the highest level of athletic preparation. Our goal is to deliver a research based, structured, high performance program to enhance athletic development while decreasing the potential for injury. The Athletic Performance experience involves the development of well-rounded individuals through teamwork, commitment, competitiveness, work ethic, and detailed training.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Design and implement proper, efficient, scientifically sound training programs for each team.
  • Conduct workouts in a safe, efficient, organized manner to comply with NCAA regulations.
  • Work to develop leadership, discipline, commitment, responsibility, accountability, work ethic, and teamwork.
  • Motivate the student athlete to compete and work at their highest levels.
  • Oversee and mentor student interns and graduate assistants.
  • Work with coaches to assess specific needs of the team or on an individual basis.
  • Work with athletic training staff and physicians as needed to implement individual rehabilitative and reconditioning programs.
  • Continue education to ensure growth within the program for improved training practices, and up-to-date injury reduction programs.
  • Participate in continuing education and certification programs to fulfill national certification(s); attend conventions, conferences, and clinics consistent with Department and University policies.
  • Uphold the University of Montana Athletic Performance Center guidelines, expectations, and procedures.
  • Assist in the coordination of daily operations of the Athletic Performance Center (scheduling, supervising, repairing, cleaning, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance.
Athletic Department employees and those University employees outside the Athletic Department with NCAA rules compliance responsibilities are subject at all times to NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance. Failure to conduct oneself as such will result in disciplinary or corrective action up to and including immediate discharge.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
  • Salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field.
  • Prior experience in weight room management.
  • Ability to manage and work well with large groups.
  • Two years of strength and conditioning experience working with college athletes.
  • CPR/AED Certified
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
