Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Spanish Interpreter position. The Spanish Interpreter is a part-time (approximately 5 hours per semester as needed), casual position, without benefits. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Title IX office provides training to community members about the work of the Title IX office. The Spanish Interpreter will translate Title IX training slides and serve as a live translator for the Title IX Coordinator during Title IX training sessions with faculty, staff, and students where translation services have been requested. Title IX training sessions are performed both via Zoom and live, in-person sessions on campus. Participants may ask questions in Spanish that require translation to English with the response translated to Spanish.

Title IX sessions requiring Spanish Translation are infrequent and will only occur as requested by participants, an estimated 1-3 sessions per semester. Title IX training sessions are approximately 75-minutes in length.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Translate from English to Spanish, Title IX training slides
  • On demand translation of Title IX trainings that occur live, in-person and via Zoom.
  • Performs other duties/functions as requested.


Qualifications

Required:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office PowerPoint, and Zoom
  • Fluent in Spanish and English, with the ability to translate questions and answers on demand.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
