Position Summary

COMMUNITY MOBILIZER

Southeast Prevention Resource Center

Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition & Recreation

Full Time/Term/Grant Funded (30 hours per week)

Southeast Prevention Resource Center (PRC) is a grant funded support center for the development and implementation of programs that assist and strengthen southeast Missouri communities in their efforts to reduce unhealthy and risky behaviors associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug misuse. The PRC serves the counties of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Madison, Perry, Scott, and Sainte Genevieve.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance to community coalitions including capacity building, identifying community resources, development of logic models, application of the strategic prevention framework, and utilization of evidence-based prevention programs

Travel within all 6 counties and attend coalition meetings

Disseminate prevention information to all 6 counties utilizing a variety of methods (social media, newsletters, websites, health fairs, and community presentations)

Present information on substance misuse and mental health to various populations within Service Area 21

Assist coalitions to apply for grant funding

Follow program timelines/deadlines and evaluation plans

Provide both written and oral monthly reports concerning program activities

Participate in required meetings and trainings, including travel to Jefferson City and other locations throughout the state

Participate in the annual Tobacco Merchant Education Program

Maintain a valid driver's license

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in community development, education, health promotion, marketing, public health, public relations, social work, or related field

Possess a current driver's license

Listed on or eligible for the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry

Ability to travel throughout the service area with or without accommodations

Knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other substance misuse prevention programs

Ability to work with individuals combatting substance misuse

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills in collection, assessment, documentation and recording of data

Demonstrated ability in planning, facilitating, and evaluating programs

Computer literacy

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service

Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
