Governors State University is seeking to hire a Graphic Designer Assistant to work within the Department of Digital Learning and Media Design under the supervision of the PRIDE Program Coordinator and collaboratively with other multimedia technicians and production staff to fulfill multimedia design needs of the university and contracts with outside clients. Projects primarily include the development of effective training and marketing/promotional materials, websites and courses. These design solutions translate concepts across various media platforms, i.e. print, web, multimedia.

The functions fall into two categories:
Multimedia Design – Creation of visual images using computers, or other electronic tools and media for use in online courses and productions.

Graphic Design – Design and update graphics to meet client’s specific commercial or promotional
needs, as in online course design, advertising, and displays. Varieties of mediums are utilized to achieve artistic or decorative effects.

Essential Responsibilities
-In consultation with graphic, audio, video, instructional design, and coordinator staff, conceptualizes, designs, authors, and update multimedia, print, web, program, and course components using Lectora, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Audacity, Camtasia, Word and other appropriate software to program, operationalize, implement, and improve the conceptual designs, and storyboards required.
-Work with staff in designing and editing effective and powerful interactions, feedback mechanisms, animations, and user interface requirements.
- Work collaboratively with Media Design staff, instructional designers and production staff to clarify the design limits, possibilities and parameters within any given project.
- Responsible for operating a variety of technical equipment including video cameras, robotic and studio, live graphics integration, prompter operation, as well as, assembling and setting up equipment, following camera scripts, creatively framing and capturing action, and responding quickly to directions.
- Work with editors, producer and creative teams to understand project scope, objectives, and to resolve technical and/or design issues. Participate in brainstorming sessions to share new design perspectives and ideas. Communicating with clients, where applicable, regarding the production and delivery of content.
- Design and create unique and interesting graphics that appear in films, television programs, online course content and promotional videos. Conceptualize an idea, design it and then make it a reality while communicating with directors, coordinators, producers, and other members of staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

Starting Salary: $33,793.50.
(This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).

A. Credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school course work that would lead to a major in graphic/visual arts communication and/or design
• 60 semester hours equals 12 months
• 90 semester hours equals 24 months
• 120 semester hours or a Bachelor’s Degree equals 36 months
B. Work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design.

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Media Design, Marketing, Instructional Design or related field.
• Advanced experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software including Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere.
