About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
The manager, digital accessibility, serves as the university's primary digital accessibility expert and champion. This role leads the university's digital accessibility team and function; directly influences and informs the work of ITS colleagues with regard to accessibility considerations and best practices; establishes and maintains a community of practice with university peers and partners; and manages relationships with the university's accessibility vendors and contractors. They are chiefly responsible for developing and enacting a rigorous plan of ongoing assessment, remediation, outreach, consulting, training, and support.
The manager partners with key offices, peers, and community members to establish a campus-wide understanding and adoption of digital accessibility standards and best practices, nurturing a robust and collaborative community of practice.
The manager is the direct representative of the CIO's office responsible for leading the efforts to ensure the university is in compliance with state and federal accessibility requirements.
This position maintains a roadmap and leads governance efforts for campus digital accessibility, focused on continuous, measurable improvement, providing for the technical direction, assessment, and implementation of existing and new technologies and support modalities which advance university digital accessibility efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
- Minimum four years of management experience and seven years
total in the field of digital accessibility with extensive
remediation, documentation creation, and oversight
experience;
- Minimum three years of deep expertise related directly to
accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG 2.0, Section 508,
ARIA); including accessibility auditing and testing tools and
strategies such as VPAT and WCAG 2.0 validation
toolsets;
- Minimum three of experience with assistive technologies
hardware and software on multiple platforms including Windows, Mac,
iOS and Android; knowledge of designing and testing methodologies
on each platform;
- One year of direct experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and
web content management systems;
- Experience with project management principles, methods and
techniques;
- Experience working in a higher education environment,

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Accessibility Practice and Team:
- Serves in a lead position to develop standards of practice and
uniform business processes to drive ongoing improvements to the
level of campus technology accessibility compliance, including with
regard to WCAG 2.0 Level A and AA. Oversees regular audits and
remediation efforts of institution-wide digital assets and develop
plans for continual improvement.
- Identifies or develops tools and processes for evaluating
technology assets, platforms, and services for compliance with
accessibility standards (in particular, in conjunction with
procurement processes). Organizes and prioritizes accessibility
requirements and engages with relevant university partners,
vendors, and content and application owners to facilitate
acquisition of accessible technologies.
- Leads the work of ITS accessibility staff as well as any
vendors/contractors acquired in the pursuit of accessibility
projects.
Partnership, Advocacy, and Training:
- Builds and maintains effective partnerships with university
peers and constituents, to increase the awareness and importance of
digital accessibility throughout the institution and advance the
accessibility of the university's web properties and digital
artifacts. Works closely with partners and advocates to support
campus-wide accessibility initiatives.
- Positions the ITS digital accessibility function as the primary
digital accessibility resource and training resource for all
members of the university community (e.g., faculty, staff,
administrators, students, and community partners). Builds and
maintains extensive resources for the community to reference in
support of digital accessibility. Provides for regular training
opportunities, awareness campaigns, on-demand consulting services,
and assessment/remediation support.
Internal Consulting and Compliance:
- Serves as a key internal consultant on ITS projects and
efforts, as well as for major university digital initiatives, to
ensure digital accessibility considerations and practice are
represented and acted upon.
- Coordinates with the Office of General Counsel, Disability
Resource Center, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and
others to support awareness of and compliance with university
digital accessibility policy and standards, and applicable federal
and state laws.
