Salary
Salary Range: $62,000 - $72,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week

Essential Functions
Job Summary
The employee will work in a collaborative team environment to perform a variety of complex, time-sensitive, and diverse leadership duties for the TX PREP's program related to outreach, program growth, instructor professional development, curriculum enhancement, partnership relationship management, grant application, fundraising and office management.

Reporting to the Director of the PREP Program / Director of Engineering Education programs in the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design, will provide leadership to support the program's strategic vision and improve equity for students in middle school and high school to be motivated and prepared for future
careers in engineering.

Core Responsibilities
1. Serve as a key member of the PREP leadership team and manage the TX PREP program elements to best serve students, teachers, and other community members. Take ownership for the development and delivery of program objectives for the TXPREP program supported by the PREP Director.
2. Develop appropriate systems and processes with the guidance of the TXPREP Director for the efficient tracking, planning, and execution of TX PREP-wide pre-engineering projects from inception to completion. These processes include: ensuring effective and efficient application and registration process for TXPREP Programs; developing and carrying out efficient facility scheduling, site management and instructor recruitment and preparation.
3. Take leadership as a communications expert developing news stories, updates, newsletter coordination and social media presence. Must be a strong and creative writer with current skills in using social media tools and software.
4. Assist the Education Specialist to incorporate innovative teaching and curriculum including engineering design thinking, mathematics and college and career preparation; interfacing, preparing data presentations, and co-managing events and meetings that include the TX PREP advisory board, alumni, external partnering institutions.
5. Provides innovative ideas, strategies, and programs related to improving academic preparation and in collaboration with the Director to enhance pre-engineering students' success along with retention and graduation rates.
6. Organize and host professional development workshops for teachers throughout the year and with targeted efforts in preparation for summer programs.
7. Serve as a key collaborator of grant writing efforts and supporting research efforts with graduate research assistants and faculty at UTSA.
8. Supervise PREP program staff and work in close collaboration with support staff at various departments at UTSA using UTSA standard processes.
9. Oversee program assessment to ensure that the assigned program meets or exceeds standards and assists in evaluating performance reports and analyzing program statistics for reporting, tracking progress, and making adjustments to programs.
10. Work towards increasing participation and involvement of various segments of the community (students and teachers from target communities) through use of effective identification of needs and use of recruitment strategies. Works with counselors, teachers and principals to identify students best served by TXPREP.
11. Participate in outreach activities that increase awareness and participation of expanding PREP program opportunities. Develop and implement a plan to increase the recruitment of target groups in new program offerings as defined by the Director (Saturday programming, Elementary student programming, Professional Development, etc.).
12. Assure excellence in communication and attention to our entire PREP community (families, school reps, and students) by following-up with schools and families to ensure their questions are answered. Coordinate the maintenance of the PREP website to assure most recent information, due dates and opportunities are posted. Streamline communication from external general sources by using easy forms and other best practices.
13. Publish and disseminate yearly scheduling and registration plans.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other STEM field or in Education with specialization in a STEM field
  • Master's Degree from an accredited university is required
  • Five years of related leadership experience
  • Experierience in developing communication and social media campaigns
  • Progressive experience in an academic setting, ex. 3 years managerial experience, specifically in university or K-12 school setting
  • Must have a passion for student success and innovation.
  • Must be able to maintain a consistent on-campus presence, travel locally to meet with key stakeholders
    and to recruit students into the PREP program and to occasionally work nights and weekends to attend
    special programming.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Exceptional problem-solving, time management, organization, and customer-service skills
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines while juggling multiple projects
  • Able to multi-task in a busy and fast-paced office environment, prioritize effectively, and collaborate well
    with faculty and staff
  • Proven ability to work independently developing work plans on assigned projects, monitoring progress, and
    tracking to completion
  • Demonstrate high levels of professionalism interacting with faculty, staff, teachers and graduate students
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; ability to draft professional reports and summaries; develop
    marketing materials and educational proposals
  • Familiarity with design thinking, mathematics TEKS in Texas, Next Generations Science and Engineering
    practices and standards, the engineering grand challenges, and other innovative engineering teaching
    practices a plus.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in STEM Education or Engineering Education
  • Experience leading student educational programs in any setting
  • Experience in creating communication and content for STEM outreach
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Working Conditions
  • Work Modality: Hybrid-Regularly.
  • This position will require a consistent on-campus presence, as well as travel locally to meet with key stakeholders.
  • This position will also include working remotely, typically 1 - 2 days per week.
  • Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
