Job Summary

CU Upward Bound (CUUB) is above all a college preparatory program, so the role of the instructor is central to the success of our Summer Academic Institute. CUUB serves low-income and first-generation high school students from Native American reservation communities in NM, AZ, UT, CO, and SD. We seek instructors who can help our students grasp course content effectively and find the confidence to see themselves thriving in a college context. CUUB Instructors must be authorities in the content of their course, but more importantly they must also enact a pedagogical philosophy that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of CUUB and be attuned to the specific needs, strengths, and cultural backgrounds of our students.

CUUB students attend the Summer Academic Institute for three years, and each year their curriculum is centered around the concepts of community, cultural empowerment, and college readiness. For this reason, all students are enrolled in Native Pathways courses, which are designed to provide students with the tools and the vocabulary they need to access institutions of higher learning without compromising their cultural identities. These courses blend indigenous histories with college preparation, leadership concepts with study skills, and communal learning with personal empowerment techniques. Through the combination of the Native Pathways curriculum and the vital and rigorous courses that CUUB students are enrolled in, the Summer Academic Institute prepares students for postsecondary success in a comprehensive and holistic manner that addresses the unique needs of our students.

CUUB will be hiring instructors for the following courses: Native Pathways I (working with rising sophomores), Native Pathways II (rising juniors), Native Pathways III (rising seniors).

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The CU Upward Bound program (CUUB) has dedicated itself to bringing the mission of Upward Bound to Native American youth. CUUB currently serves 103 high school students from 12 high schools located in 6 different tribal communities: Navajo, Ramah Navajo, Southern Ute, Ute Mountain Ute, Pine Ridge, and Jemez Pueblo.
