About the Department/Unit

Summary/Objective
The Social Media Manager will plan and execute American University's strategic social media initiatives. The Manager will administer official university social media accounts, as well as curate UCM and other university content to share or target with prospective students, current students, faculty and staff, alumni, and other university constituencies.
Essential Functions
- Manages all social media content and strategy for the University's official social media presence on all American University social properties, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other emerging social media platforms in order to develop a cohesive narrative, brand voice, and integrated social media strategy.
- Prepares regular and ad hoc analytics reports on efficacy and impact of social initiatives and campaigns utilizing various analytic tools.
- Serves as the leader of the university’s social media community and as an advisor to all units on best practices, as well as enforces social media guidelines, escalates, and shares user-generated content, where appropriate, to internal and client stakeholders.
- Leads AU’s social marketing efforts on main accounts for university brand initiatives and serves as advisor to other divisions and units for paid social efforts.
- Serves as social media expert during emergency and crisis communications for the university.
- Serves as backup and support for the university president's social media.
- Monitors other universities and technology/social media companies for best practices, emerging trends, new features, and essential analytics.
- Other duties as assigned.
