Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking to hire up to two applicants for a 7- 8 week assignment.

The Spring 2023 program is dedicated to the Arts and Humanities. Related UNCW academic units are Art & Art History, Communications Studies, English, Film Studies, History, Music, Philosophy & Religion, Theatre, World Languages and Cultures, and Gender Studies. (Visiting Scholar positions for the Natural and Social Sciences disciplines will be posted in March 2023 for Fall semester 2023).

Through this Visiting Artist and Scholar Program, The College of Arts and Sciences expects to engage our campus and regional community in a variety of perspectives and creative experiences through course work, workshops, and/or public lectures.

The artist’s or scholar’s residency will take the form of collaborative work with faculty and students which may include formal undergraduate or graduate teaching of seminars or workshops embedded in other current course offerings, and or public lectures. Visiting artists and scholars are expected to be in residence full-time for the duration of their proposed project minimum of seven to eight weeks, between January and May 2023. Visiting scholars are not expected to participate in departmental governance or attend departmental meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applications are sought from nationally and internationally recognized scholars who have an established body of work and exemplary professional record in the Arts and Humanities. A terminal degree ( MFA or Ph.D.), teaching experience, and a growing record of scholarship are required.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience at the university level.

The search committee will consider the applicant’s experience and his or her appropriateness to the program’s mission and curriculum, as well as the quality of work and written statements. Please note, this is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Temporary assignments cannot exceed 11 consecutive months without a full 31-day break from employment. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.
