Job Description:

Empire State College's Information Technology Services seeks a Digital Accessibility Coordinator to coordinate the development and implementation of Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) processes and policies at the college. Under the direction of the Director of Digital Accessibility, Digital Media, and Digital Learning Environments, the incumbent will collaborate with faculty, professionals, and staff at the college on implementing accessibility initiatives, researching and vetting software and accessibility compliance, and assisting with development and implementation of policy and practice related to digital accessibility. This position may supervise limited staff as needed.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for completing EITA reviews of software, websites, and documents as requested.
  • Provide support for development, rollout, ongoing development, and compliance of accessibility training program.
  • Prioritize and maintain a documentation for projects and activities in Digital Accessibility.
  • Provide consultative services to stakeholders on meeting EITA compliance and make recommendations to the college community on ongoing digital accessibility needs.
  • Collaborate with groups across the college to connect users to resources and trainings as needed.
  • Monitor website accessibility issues and course accessibility issues in conjunction with other stakeholder groups.
  • In conjunction with EITA staff conduct web research on policies, laws and processes related to EITA and 508 compliance.
  • Manage ongoing digital accessibility reviews and compliance activities, including coordinating remediation of issues as needed.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in digital accessibility and EIT accessibility for college community.
  • Serve as co-chair of the EITA college committee.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in education/higher education settings with experience in instructional/educational technology, accessibility, special education.
  • Proficiency in a variety of educational technologies, including learning management systems, accessibility checkers, project management tools, other accessibility software and tools used in higher education.
  • Strong communication and interaction skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support.
  • Understanding of supporting students and employees with accessibility concerns.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Able to organize, categorize, and prioritize workload effectively and efficiently under minimal supervision.
  • Able to foster cooperative relationships with a diverse academic community, including instructional designers and faculty. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, special education, or instructional technology/design, or related academic field.
  • Knowledge of project management, adult learning, instructional design methodology, technology-mediated learning, and ADA sections 504 & 508.
  • Understanding of universal design, accessibility and assistive technologies in higher education.
