The Education Department of Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Education in ESOL who is committed to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  Qualifications include (but are not limited to) Ph. D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field.  Responsibilities will include teaching courses in the ESOL Endorsement Program and serving as the ESOL Program Coordinator. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a wide range of undergraduate and graduate education courses, including K-12 ESOL endorsement courses with face to face and remote instructional methods.  
  • Serve as an ESOL Program Coordinator who works with students, staff, faculty and community partners, including school districts.  
  • Assist and mentor students as faculty advisor in academic and career planning.  
  • Perform the normal responsibilities of a faculty member at a liberal arts university, including helping with student recruitment.  

 

Preference will be given to individuals with four or more of the following (in order of preference):

  • D. or Ed.D. in Education with a focus on ESOL
  • ESOL certification/endorsement 
  • Expertise teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages and Elementary Education 
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience in grades preK-12 
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience in an ESOL setting 
  • A strong record of scholarship in teacher education or related field 
  • Teaching and/or research and/or service that demonstrates a commitment to diversity as defined by the Linfield University diversity statement: Linfield University honors human rights and academic freedom, celebrates diverse cultures, fosters a climate of mutual respect, and promotes an inclusive environment that affirms the value of all persons 
  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations or students of color 
  • Commitment to implementing culturally responsive pedagogy and curricula 
  • Evidence of expertise in Teacher Education courses for undergradate and graduate teacher candidates
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and colleagues and capacity to serve the department and larger university community 
  • Evidence of at least three years of excellent teaching at the post-secondary college level in the US and/or abroad beyond the teaching assistant level 
  • Demonstrated success with oversight and management of graduate programming for ESOL
  • Demonstrated success with recruitment and retention of ESOL teacher candidates
  • Demonstrated success with managing university supervisors and multiple cohorts of graduate ESOL teaching candidates
