Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Tenure Track Open Rank Faculty Positions in Biostatistics

The past year has magnified the ways that inequities—whether due to race, gender, sexuality, or income—contribute to health disparities. These inequities are a major public health threat and demand a concerted, interdisciplinary effort. At the College of Public Health, we dedicate ourselves to public health in all its parameters, from epidemiology to nursing, from social work to rehabilitation sciences. Social justice has always driven our work, understanding that individual outcomes are intricately tied to the larger systems we inhabit, is the foundation of our college.

The Position. We invite applications for faculty specializing in biostatistics to join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Summer 2022.  Those with a strong background in spatial statistics and statistical methods for intervention trials including multilevel interventions, longitudinal data analysis, and complex health data are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications. A doctorate in biostatistics, statistics, or related field is required. For early career applicants, preferred candidates are individuals currently holding the rank of assistant professor or persons completing or having recently completed a postdoctoral position with external funding. Rank is open with faculty hired at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor depending on qualifications. Midcareer and senior applicants should have an active, externally-funded research portfolio and research record appropriate to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Although we anticipate one hire in this area, we will consider cluster hiring of research teams including senior and early career faculty. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusivity in collaboration and interdisciplinary research.

The Department. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics combines curiosity with rigorous, applied methods that lead us to compelling questions and impactful results to improve public health. This is a great opportunity to join a Department experiencing significant growth. We have 17 faculty members who conduct research in several areas, such as mediation, causal inference, missing data and measurement error, semiparametric regression, latent variable modeling, and psychometrics as well as behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, pediatric environmental health and immune responses, environmental and occupational exposures, waterborne diseases, cognitive decline, and cardiovascular disease. The Department annually enrolls >1,800 undergraduate and graduate students with diverse backgrounds in our courses and has >100 graduate students in 5 current programs: PhD in Epidemiology; MPH degrees in Epidemiology (in-person and online), Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health; and MS in Epidemiology. In fall 2022, our MS degree in Public Health Data Science will launch.

To apply, submit a detailed CV; a cover letter explicating your qualifications including experiences with diversity, equity and inclusion; a 1-page research statement; and a list of 3-5 references to cphsearch@temple.edu. Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For more information about this position or to make nominations, contact Ms. Abbigail Ametrano, Assistant Director of Faculty Recruitment, at abbigail.ametrano@temple.edu.
