Position Summary:

This position serves as a support for prospective students inquiring about and admitted to online degree and certificate programs within the UWO+ portfolio of online programs at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The position will work with students at the point of inquiry through the application, matriculation, and enrollment processes with follow up support through years 1 and 2 of their program. The position engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as degree options, degree requirements and online student success resources. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates prospective and current student records. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic student support services and aids in student success, retention, and program completion. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. The ideal candidate will understand non-traditional and adult student experiences and be able to acknowledge the unique set of obstacles these students face.

Responsibilities

First Point of Contact (25%)
  • Proactively reach out within 2 hours to prospective students who have submitted a Request for Information form (RFI).
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with students within their portfolio.
  • Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures.
  • Guide students through the application process points including connecting students to admissions and financial aid to facilitate enrollment.
Ongoing Student Support (25%)
  • Serves as support for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options.
  • Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies.
  • Maintains expertise with online program curriculum.
  • Focus on student retention and meeting the required retention goal.
Success Coaching (25%)
  • Proactively engages students as needed regarding deadlines, important tasks, and processes related to the application funnel process.
  • Proactively engages students as needed regarding their online study, including success coaching.
  • Connect students with additional student support services such as writing lab, tutoring, math lab, and Library services.
  • Help students understand expectations for online courses, and how to prepare for the workload and management of professional, personal, and academic responsibilities.
Communications and Collaborations (20%)
  • Collaborate with relevant university departments on developing, implementing, and improving administrative processes necessary for successful student services.
  • Assist the students in developing connections with faculty advisors and the professional advisors as appropriate.
  • Maintain clear lines of communication between students, professional advisors, faculty advisors and the retention navigators in Enrollment Management.
Other Duties (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned by the OCE Director of Advising and Recruiting.
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated advanced experience in customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • A collaborative attitude and evidence of successfully working within a team structure.
  • Strong digital skills and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to work well within changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work within a nontraditional work schedule that will include evenings and some weekend hours.
Preferred:
  • Professional experience in a higher-education setting.
  • Prior experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience with students in online programs.
  • Demonstrated success providing student services effectively in an online or remote format.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
