Position Summary:

The Arts & Humanities Librarian serves as a liaison with several departments, including Art and Art History, Classics, Theatre Arts, African American Studies, Communication Studies, Asian Studies and the School of Music. The position supports course integrated teaching, reference and research activities for faculty and students in these departments; participates in library outreach and engagement programs and assists with teaching associated with first-year seminars. In addition, the position is responsible for production of research and course guides to support the curriculum and also provides general reference services. The A&H Librarian is also responsible for the Book Arts Collection; overseeing purchases, outreach and engagement in this area. This position is part of a team of service oriented and collaborative librarians and should lead efforts to support learning, scholarship and creative and artistic activities through building collections and delivering a program of outreach, engagement, teaching and consultation in the arts & humanities.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Serve as the library's liaison to departments in the arts and humanities disciplines. May serve as liaison to additional departments/programs depending on educational background and/or experience.
• Contribute to a dynamic information literacy program, teaching effective information seeking and critical thinking skills; continuously working to improve teaching by assessing student learning outcomes and participating in professional development activities focused on pedagogy; conduct targeted and strategic outreach in order to integrate information literacy across arts and humanities curricula and build strong working relationships with faculty in liaison departments.
• Build and manage library curriculum-driven collections to meet the needs of students and faculty with a commitment to creating an inclusive collection. Spend allocated collection development funds in a timely and responsible manner.
• Communicate information about library policies and promote library services to faculty and students. Communicate feedback to the Associate Director of Public Services and colleagues.
• Create teaching and learning support materials such as tutorials, videos and research guides and contribute to the overall web presence of the library.
• Provide reference and research assistance in traditional and digital environments.
• Participate in professional activities and departmental planning.
• Works with librarians, faculty and administrators to promote the integration of information literacy into the curriculum
• Works collaboratively with colleagues to provide innovative user-centered outreach services
• Additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist in training and directing students in functions related to responsibilities.

Budget Responsibilities:

Monitors learning materials budget for liaison departments and ensures timely spend out.

Qualifications:

• Education or experience in the arts and humanities.
• Master of Library Science from an accredited program.
• Demonstrated team and project leadership skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, belonging, inclusion and equity.
• Experience or education in teaching or instructional activities.
• Strong interest in current and emerging information technologies and potential applications and opportunities for the library.
• Reference experience or education.
• Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collegially with library staff, faculty and students.
• Ability to function effectively in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
• Knowledge of web development and web technologies.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, time management, and communication skills.
• Strong commitment to excellence in public service.
• An understanding of and commitment to the educational objectives of the University and the ability to contribute significantly to the role of the Library in the educational process.
• Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.

Preferred Requirements:

• Undergraduate degree or graduate degree in music, theater or fine/studio arts
• Education or experience in the Book Arts
• Experience providing reference and teaching in the fine and performing arts
• Education or experience with inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy
