NOTE: This is a one-year appointment.

The Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation at Weber State University invites applications for a temporary (one-year) visiting assistant professor or instructor of Outdoor & Community Recreation Education (OCRE) position to begin July 1, 2022. Although this is a temporary position, a tenure-track search for an assistant professor of Outdoor & Community Recreation will commence fall of 2022 and the successful applicant for this position may apply.
The current position requires teaching a 12-credit hour load each semester, which may include courses in: inclusive recreation, leadership, nature interpretation, risk management, facilities management, and other courses in the program. The OCRE program is the leading program in the College of Education when it comes to providing high impact experiences for our students, which includes offering community engaged experiences, undergraduate research, field-expeditions, international programming, and interdisciplinary opportunities. We look forward to working with a colleague who shares a passion for excellence in pedagogy.
In addition to the teaching load, this position requires the successful applicant to work collegially as a member of the OCRE faculty team, other interdisciplinary programs within the Department, and other campus entities. We are seeking an individual interested in being part of a growing program and to share in the leadership to expand the program in the future.

Job Duties:


Required Qualifications:

• Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in Recreation Management or other closely related field by the start date. * Candidates must possess a Ph.D. for the visiting professor position.
• Two years (full or part time) of successful experience teaching recreation courses in a college/university setting and/or two years professional experience in other related settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Recreation Management or other closely related field
• Evidence of teaching a variety of academic and activity courses with emphasis on administration and management of outdoor and community recreation services.
• Experience with intern supervision
• Experience with best practices in teaching, innovative pedagogical methods and assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Evidence of recent research and scholarship.
• Demonstrated computer literacy, teaching with technology and other technology related competencies for teaching and research.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated service to the recreation profession.
• Hold current certifications pertinent to specialized instruction and risk management for field experiences and activity courses (WFR, AMGA, AIARE, ACA Canoe/Kayak/SUP, LNT, etc.).
