    Department Summary
    The University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the mission of the UHS.

    This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

    Position Summary:

    The Health Promotion/Community Health Specialist/Coordinator are staff members of the Health Promotion and Community Health team at the University of Oregon University Health Services (UHS). The Health Promotion and Community Health team is focused on promoting student success by creating supportive environments for health that enable students to thrive. This is done through primary and secondary prevention efforts, with a focus on developing equitable opportunities and culturally appropriate health and wellness programming for students and student communities.

    Health Promotion/Community Health incorporates multicultural, diversity and health equity concepts and principles into programs and services, developing culturally appropriate health and wellness programs for UO students with special consideration for underrepresented populations.

    The Health Promotion/Community Specialists and Coordinator will utilize public health approaches to create, provide, and coordinate wellness and health promotion, prevention programs and services. This programming will be carried out in concert with the overall strategic direction of the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management, UHS, Public health Practices and in partnership with campus partners. Research, theories, and evidence-based practices will support programming. Additionally, the Health Promotion/Community Health Specialist will work with the other members of health Promotion Health Initiatives teams to develop and implement strategies to improve the health outcomes and academic performance of individual student, student groups, and campus community, including, but not limited to, programming and/or policy development.

    Health Promotion/Community Health Coordinator:
  • The Health Promotion/Community Health Coordinator position focusing on Sexual Health and Substance Abuse is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of sexual health programs, tobacco prevention and cessation, and other health programs based on needs assessment and UHS priorities in the community and in the Wellness Center Located in the Erb Memorial Union.

  • Health Promotions/Community Health Specialists:
  • The Health Promotion/Community Health Specialist position focusing on Peer Health and Physical Wellness will provide direction and oversight for peer health education, and nutrition, food security, in the community and in the Wellness Center located at the Erb Memorial Union.
  • The Health Promotion/Community Health Specialist position focusing on Mental Health and Social Connection will provide the program development and oversight of mental health and related programming, based on needs assessment and UHS priorities.

  • These positions report to the Health Promotion Manager and are part of the Public Health Practices Team.
    Minimum Requirements
    Specialists:

    • Master's degree in public health, health education, public health policy, health promotion, community health, social work, counseling, or related field OR an equivalent combination of experience, skills, and education.
    • One year of professional work experience in public health, health education, public health policy, health promotion, or related field.

      Coordinator:

    • Bachelor's degree in a health, prevention, or policy related field such as health education, public health policy, health promotion, community health, social work, counseling, or other related field.
    • One year of work experience in public health, health education, public health policy, health promotion, or related field

      Special Qualifications:
    • Position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM).
    • Must be in compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

    • Communication skills that would contribute to successful collaborations with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
    • Ability to coordinate programs and/or activities.
    • Ability to collaborate with others.
    • Experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.

      Specialists:

    • Ability to supervise, advise, train, and/or educate students such as peer educators, interns and/or student workers.
      Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in planning and coordinating health related programs.
    • Experience mentoring and working with students
