Job Details

The 

 Assistant Director is responsible for student organization management and student leadership development initiatives within the Office for Student Engagement and Leadership. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Engagement and Leadership, the Assistant Director supports the mission and strategic initiatives of Slippery Rock University, Office for Student Engagement and Leadership, and the Slippery Rock University Student Government Association.

The Assistant Director is responsible for providing support, training, and development to student organizations and their members, which includes:
  • Connect student interests that align with opportunities to encourage participation and contribution in student organizations
  • Develop and implement student organization support programs (funding, recognition, travel, training, leadership awards ceremony, etc.) that solidify student organizations as key avenues for student success
  • Establish annual registration process and required paperwork and timelines for student organizations
  • Develop leadership training series for student organization leaders
  • Develop online resources for student organization members to assist in event planning and organizational management
  • Develop and implement a marketing strategy to promote involvement in student organizations
  • Conduct regular informational meetings with student organization leadership and advisors
  • Work with student organizations to identify issues and implement strategies to improve in areas such as recruitment, service, academics, philanthropy, alumni engagement, risk management, and programming.
  • Support the Student Government Association in execution of the new student organization recognition process and student organization funding
  • Support Campus Recreation in the Club Sports recognition process
  • Provide information, guidance, and resources to students desiring the establishment of new student organizations
  • Organize semester Involvement Fair for student organizations and departments who provide co-curricular program
  • Maintain web pages related to student organizations
  • Assist student organizations in recruiting a faculty/staff advisor and maintain a directory of faculty/staff advisors
  • Develop training and resources for faculty/staff advisors
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and administrators with issues, concerns, or conflicts involving student organizations
  • Develop, explain, and enforce university policies and procedures for student organizations
  • Advise student organizations in off-campus travel and provide oversight for the Student Organizations Travel Policy
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies related to student organization membership including needs assessment, evaluation of programs and services, and outcomes assessment

 


The Assistant Director will serve as the student organization branch administrator for the university online student engagement platform, which includes:
  • Manage the student organization events process, including reviewing and approving events submitted by student organizations
  • Manage the creation and development of new online portals for student organizations, including reviewing and approving portal content
  • Manage the online promotions process, including reviewing, approving, and scheduling of community events, news, and forms
  • Maintain assessment data regarding student organization usage and student involvement and produce annual report documenting usage
  • Coordinate marketing efforts of the platform to incoming students and new student organization leaders
  • Prepare annual reports, needs and outcomes, assessments, and survey instruments related to student organization usage of the platform

The Assistant Director is responsible for working with students, faculty and staff in the development, coordination and implementation of innovative and transformative co-curricular leadership education and development programs, which includes:
  • Coordinate the Emerging Leadership Experience, a leadership development program designed for first-year students, including developing curricula, recruiting participants, supervision and training of Peer Mentors, ongoing assessment of the program, and maintaining historical records of program participants.
  • Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates student staff of Peer Mentors who support departmental leadership development initiatives.
  • Provide direct supervision and support to Student Leadership Specialists (student employees) designated to support leadership development initiatives.
  • Develops, plans, and implements leadership development workshops, training programs, and program curricula, in accordance with departmental and University goals.
  • Coordinates an annual campus leadership conference, open to all University students, to educate on various leadership-related topics; works with faculty and staff to provide relevant content for conference sessions.
  • Collects and analyzes leadership program data and participates in evaluating program effectiveness; identifies problems and makes changes, within prescribed guidelines, or recommends major changes.
  • Stay abreast and informed about current trends in college student leadership development and infuse this knowledge into intentional leadership program development.

The Assistant Director will work in collaboration the Office for Student Engagement and Leadership team, as well as other departments and non-university groups, to respond to specific university needs and to represent the division of Student Affairs, both on and off-campus. This includes:
  • Assists in the coordination of departmental sponsored events and programs, including, but not limited to the Involvement Fair, Homecoming, Week of Welcome (WOW), graduate assistant training, student leader training, student recognition events, and departmental fundraising efforts.
  • Represent the office at University-wide programs, including, but not limited to Orientation, Admitted Student Days, and Open House.
  • Attend meetings with other university staff as required
  • Serve on university committees as invited or appointed
  • Represent the Office for Student Engagement and Leadership to university groups and/or the general public (classroom lectures, conferences, presentations, workshops, trainings, etc.)
  • Participate in professional development activities (attending meetings, conferences, serve on professional associations)
  • Develop/facilitate specific programs or services in cooperation with or at the request of other departments
  • Prepare semester and annual reports, needs and outcomes, assessments, and survey instruments

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Master’s degree OR three years professional experience working in a higher education environment

Successful performance in an interview/presentation and pass a criminal background check
