Job Summary:

The Associate Medical Director (AMD), reports to the Director of Medical Services (DMS), and is responsible for supporting physician and, when needed and appropriate, advance practice professional (APP) providers in their growth and development as clinicians as well as ensuring their success in providing stellar medical care to patients and meeting organizational expectations. The AMD must have effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to comfortably interact with diverse populations and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. The AMD is a collaborative member of the Medical Services Leadership Team, which includes the Director of Medical Services, Director of Nursing, Associate Director of Clinical Operations, Associate Director of Psychiatry, and APP Supervisors.

Responsibilities:

This position is 70% direct clinical care and 30% administrative activities (which could vary based on clinical and administrative needs at a given time).

Direct Clinical Care Duties 70%
-Provide clinical care to UHS Medical Services patients.
-Collaborate with other UHS providers, including mental health providers, on student care.
-Maintain timely electronic medical records.

Administrative Duties 30%
-Coach and mentor physician providers within the departments of Primary Care, Gynecology, and Sexual Health, including developing new providers by actively participating in new provider recruitment, orientation processes, and mentoring new providers.
-Conduct quarterly performance and/or growth and development evaluations for physicians, including, but not limited to, a review and analysis of data such as patient, staff and peer evaluations, provider self-evaluations, chart review, timely documentation etc.
-Collaborate closely with supervisors overseeing physicians and APPs in other Departments to provide cross coverage of supervision, as appropriate and as needed.
-In collaboration with Medical Services Leadership Team, set and manage agenda for routine monthly provider meetings, conduct them and ensure follow-up on key items from the meetings
-Participate in UHS training programs for health professions students by serving as a clinical preceptor, developing and delivering educational curricula to health profession learners as well as UHS medical providers
-Participate in UHS committees and workgroups as requested
-Represent UHS at meetings, organizations or in liaison relationships within UHS and throughout the UW-Madison campus as assigned by director
-Participate in the development and delivery of programs to meet the needs of a college population.
-Participate in activities to improve patient satisfaction.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
MD or DO degree, with completed residency in Pediatrics (additional specialization in Adolescent Medicine required), Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or Internal Medicine.

Qualifications:

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Three years post-training clinical experience required.
Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience required.

Experience in college health setting preferred.

License/Certification:

Current Licensure or eligibility to become licensed as a physician in the state of Wisconsin. Board Certification in Primary Specialty required. Board Eligible physicians will be considered only during their 1st post-graduate year.

Please note: This position is primarily clinical and may have some limited interaction with learners rotating through UHS.
