Visiting Assistant Professor of Televisual Studies

Job No: 496973
Position Type: full-time
Location: Lewisburg, PA
Categories: English

Bucknell University's Film/Media Studies Program invites applications for a visiting assistant professor of televisual studies with a specialization in race and/or gender. The one-year position will begin in August 2022.

There is a 3/3 teaching load which includes a course in the historical evolution of television as it interfaces with cinema, radio, and twenty-first century platforms, along with more focused special topics offerings that tackle specific eras, genres, and issues in relation to race and/or gender in televisual culture and industry. These classes will emphasize critical writing and contribute to the college's core curriculum as well as to the F/MS major/minor. We seek a teacher-scholar with clear evidence of commitment to undergraduate teaching and research, student learning, diversity, and inclusive pedagogy. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in an appropriate field (ABD candidates will be considered).

Bucknell is a highly selective, predominantly undergraduate, private university with approximately 3,700 students enrolled in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Management, and Engineering. The Film/Media Studies Program has strong offerings in film history and interpretation, supported by special programming at Lewisburg's 1941 Campus Theatre. Our production courses have excellent facilities, with students making a wide range of creative media.

Bucknell University, an Equal Opportunity Employer, welcomes applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. We believe that students learn best in a diverse, inclusive community and we are therefore committed to Bucknell's efforts to create a climate that fosters the growth and development of a diverse student body. Application materials include a Cover Letter, CV, and Diversity Statement (one-page statement describing how commitment to diversity is present in the candidate's teaching, research, and mentoring). Candidates invited to submit for a second round will be asked for a writing sample, sample syllabi, and three letters of recommendation. Applications will only be accepted through Bucknell's online Jobs@Bucknell submission portal. Review of applications will begin March 7, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled.
