Student Life Engagement Coordinator

This position is based in Los Angeles, CA at the Emerson College Los Angeles Program (ELA). Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Student Wellnes and Support Services, the Student Life Engagement Coordinator (SLEC) is responsible for the development and assessment of social and educational programming. The SLEC is responsible for the implementation and management of cultural, educational, social and academic programs with an emphasis on programming that serves to enhance the Los Angeles experience for participants. The SLEC is also responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive civic engagement program for the entire ELA community. This is an hourly position that requires flexible hours including some nights and weekends. (36.25 hours per week)

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and other administrative units in creating meaningful residential activities.
  • Implements a wide variety of events, activities and programs with a broad appeal to the residential student population;
  • Coordinates and implements all major student life events including: Student Life Orientation, Welcome Week, Campus Wide Volunteer Events, WRAP Party, Disney Trip, First Fridays and Therapy Dogs.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, manage, and promote opportunities for residents and community members to explore public service activities that can supplement academic and professional success and provide reflection opportunities to students engaged in public service.
  • Maintains and analyzes program budget for large-scale events; manages performance agreement process for speakers, performers, and vendors.
  • Develop an annual/monthly calendar of activities/events.
  • Manage all administrative aspects of activity/events development from start to finish, including proposals/approvals, supplies, advertising, evaluations, and budget development/tracking.
  • Develop ongoing evaluation process for activities.
  • Develop and implement appropriate policies and training around activities and events.
  • Publish monthly communication (in a variety of forms) to inform ELA community regarding events and activities.
  • Serve as a Campus Administrator and technical/administrative liaison for the EmConnect engagement software.
  • Provide support to staff in planning Career Advisory Network (CAN) events.
  • Provide support and encouragement for student led programming across campus.
  • Develop and implement programming designated for our international student population.
  • Assists with the management of the day-to-day operations of the department, development and implementation of annual goals, training initiatives, and objectives.
  • Provide direct oversight to the ELA Food Bank, including donation solicitation and usage tracking.
  • Assists with Covid related duties in support of student's needs (rapid testing, room moves, meal delivery, etc.)
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree or 1 to 3 years experience in developing activities/events/programs for college students.
  • Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Positive, team-oriented, with a proven record of collaboration.
  • Firm commitment to diversity and advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a proficient level of software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, graphics, internet, social media and e-mail.

  • Requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple work priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive data and communications.


PREFERRED/DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION:
  • Familiarity with the upperclassmen residential experience.
  • Experience with a study away program and/or internship program.
  • Experience with Adobe Design Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Ability to thrive in an evolving work environment.
  • Master's Degree in higher education or equivalent.


PREFERRED/DESIRABLE PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in a student life or campus activities office.
  • Experience in a conference-style residential setting.
  • Experience in event coordination.


Grade of Position: A14N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Salary: $43,700.14
