About the Opportunity

The Office of the Dean in the School of Law at Northeastern University seeks a Faculty Affairs Manager. This position provides high-level support for the Dean and Associate Deans in regards to Faculty Affairs functions within the School of Law, overseeing and monitoring the workflow procedures for a number of faculty lifecycle processes, including, but not limited to the appointments process, tenure and promotion, sabbaticals, research stipends, visiting scholar and part-time faculty appointments. The individual will also serve as the primary liaison and subject matter expert for faculty affairs related inquiries and requests, ensuring compliance with and assisting with the implementation of Faculty Handbook and School of Law policies and guidelines.

The person holding this job should demonstrate a high level of discretion and sound judgement and the ability to maintain confidentiality. This position requires taking initiative, problem solving skills, and the capacity to exercise independent judgement in a range of areas.

This is a full-time position. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Responsibilities:

Faculty Affairs: Manages Faculty Affairs within the School of Law in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and School of Law policies and guidelines. Serves as the subject matter expert and point of contact for Faculty Affairs-related items. This includes managing the Appointments Process, Tenure & Promotion, Sabbatical, Merit, Research Stipends, Visiting Scholars and Part-Time Faculty appointments. This also includes developing communications and tracking systems to ensure deliverables and deadlines are adequately met. Works closely with various personnel to meet Faculty Affairs deliverables, including the Special Assistant to Leadership & Project Manager, Committee Chairs, the Director of Administration & Finance, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and the Associate Dean of Administration & Finance.

Dean Support: Provides administrative and project support to the Dean in regards to faculty affairs. Works in conjunction with Executive Assistant to the Dean in regards to calendaring and drafting communications.

Special Projects & Initiatives: Oversee special projects, initiatives, or other needs as they arise at the School of Law.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of administrative experience, preferably working with faculty in Higher Education or related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive material and maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent judgement and time-management skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to take initiative, handle quickly changing priorities, and work collaboratively
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in key technology and software for the purposes of scheduling, video conferencing, record keeping, communications, and high-level document production (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and Cloud Based Systems). Ability to learn, utilize, and troubleshoot new and unfamiliar software and technology. Experience with project management software preferred (i.e. Asana, Slack, etc.)
  • Expertise with basic Administrative functions (i.e., experience recording meeting minutes, making complex travel arrangements and preparing itineraries).
