Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters in Education, Higher Education, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2-years teaching experience in higher education setting.
  • Administrative experience in higher education setting.
  • Experience working with complex course schedules.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Strong analytic and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in the exchange of information with students, faculty, and staff.

N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Teacher Education resides within the Dean's Office of the Reich College of Education ( RCOE ) and provides leadership across Teacher Education programs to direct:
  • The RCOE Professional Education CORE
  • Teacher Education licensure
  • Admission to Teacher Education
RCOE Professional CORE
  • Collaborate with all Undergraduate Teacher Education Program Directors to ensure all education majors are provided with the content within the Professional Education CORE necessary to meet state requirements, legislative mandates and accreditation requirements.
  • Work closely with department chairs and program directors to project and develop Professional CORE course schedules.
  • Lead workshops and professional development for faculty, education majors, and P-12 partners to develop and sustain Professional CORE community.
  • Ensure that equity, diversity, and inclusion are represented throughout the Professional CORE courses through the development of professional development opportunities and resources to support Professional Education CORE faculty, staff and students.
  • Prepare and maintain reports related to RCOE Professional Core.
  • Develop and facilitate the Induction to Teacher Education process and ceremony.
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and implementation of Mountaineer Steps to Teaching – First Steps and Second Steps.
  • Liaison with the James Center for Student Success and Advising regarding professional development seminars related to Teacher Education.
  • Collect, review, and disseminate appropriate Professional Core program data to make programmatic improvements.
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Program Services to develop and implement policies and procedures to support the Professional CORE .
  • Coordinate and lead program meetings as necessary to support the Professional Core.
  • Convene regular meetings of the Professional Education CORE Affiliated Faculty, course developers, instructors, program directors, and department chairs to engage in curriculum development, professional development, and assessment of the Professional Core to ensure curriculum and practices remain relevant and aligned with state and national standards.
  • Develop processes, procedures, and policies to support the Professional Education CORE and Teacher Education Students.
  • Represent the Professional Education CORE on the Professional Education Council.
  • Teach in the Professional Core, as needed.
Teacher Education Licensure
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Program Services to implement licensure requirements and policies.
  • Oversight of the Initial Licensure Teacher Education Handbook in collaboration with the RCOE Associate Deans and the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Liaison with NCDPI on licensure policies and systems, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain systems to support licensure process internal/external to the RCOE .
  • Engage with public school partners concerning licensure requirements.
  • Reich College of Education Licensure Officer (Residency & UG/Graduate Verification Forms).
Admission to Teacher Education
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Program Services to develop and implement policies and protocols to ensure that legislative requirements are met for all Teacher Education candidates.
  • Stay current on legislative requirements and implement accordingly.
  • Manage admission to Teacher Education process.
  • Coordinate and implement First & Second Steps to Teaching (partnership w/ Director of Clinical Education).
  • Liaison with Associate Director of Admissions for Teacher Education to coordinate retention and recruitment efforts.
  • Coordinate monthly undergraduate program director meetings.
  • Collaborate with James Center for Student Success and Advising to inform of licensure and ATCH changes.
  • Liaison with Appstate IT to develop and maintain systems and modify based on changes in policy.
  • Coordinate and lead student disposition meetings- Shared responsibility with Director of Clinical Education.
  • Lead RCOE Teacher Education Recruitment Committee.
Supervision
  • Supervise and evaluate support staff (Student Record Specialist).
