Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of University Initiatives & Student Success, the Data Visualization Analyst is responsible for playing a crucial role in developing Visualization dashboards that support and enhance the day-to-day operations and reporting and analysis for the University and other stakeholders. The Data Visualization Analyst will work in the development and production of complex student data reports and analysis in support of the University goals and Graduation Initiatives. The Data Visualization Analyst will also assist the Strategic Data Analyst in meeting the reporting requirements to the CSU Chancellors Office, internal and external reporting agencies.
FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,792 per month

Hiring Range: $4,372 - $6,667 per month

Work Hours: Monday to Friday; 8am-5pm. Other hours as required.

Minimum Qualifications
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry-standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques. Further progress within this classification is based on department needs and work assignments requiring higher levels of skills and knowledge. Refer to the Information Technology Series Introduction for skill level definitions.
Required Qualifications
Education: 1. Bachelor's Degree preferably in computer science, education, information systems or related field from an accredited university or college, or equivalent training and applied experience Experience: 2. Experience with Oracle/PeopleSoft Student Administration system or comparable online student system. 3. Experience with database analysis, systems operations, database management, process development and project management. 4. Experience designing and presenting complex datasets in visually compelling formats, and integrating multiple data sources and database systems Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 5. Knowledge of database management systems and skilled programming abilities in Structured Query Language (SQL) or other data query languages, capable of writing complex queries. 6. Proficient with Tableau and other BI tools to create reports with an approach to data visualization. 7. Ability to infer business requirements to make reporting decisions and develop coherent data visualization. 8. Familiarity with data practices, documentation and data dictionary. 9. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 10. Ability to effectively translate technical information and communications to various non-technical audiences. 11. Ability to research and analyze complex issues, demonstrate problem-solving skills and provide clear and concise analysis, recommendations and solutions. 12. Demonstrated ability to schedule and prioritize multiple projects and assigned work to meet deadlines 13. Ability to function effectively under time constraints and rapidly changing priorities. 14. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with other divisions, departments and faculty. 15. Ability to work independently as well as foster a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: 16. Master's degree from an accredited university or college. Experience: 17. Three years of experience with Oracle/PeopleSoft Student Administration system or comparable online student system. 18. Three years of experience in designing and developing high impact visualizations 19. Experience working with student information systems and knowledge of functional modules in the student system 20. Experience with program development, implementation, and support of University goals and Graduation initiatives. 21. Knowledge of California State University Chancellor Office Executive Orders and Coded Memorandum; Sacramento State academic and administrative policies and requirements, as well as State of California Title V Education Code and the Family Education Records and Privacy Act (FERPA). 22. Experience with writing scripts to analyze data and perform data queries, creating reports with quantitative modeling, detail-oriented approach to data visualization and validation. 23. Experience looking at data bias, particularly, cultural bias and its effect on outcome.
