About the Department/Unit

The Office of Enrollment is responsible for the recruitment of undergraduate students, including freshmen and transfers, to the university, as well as the financial support for students. The Office consists of four areas which work in concert to meet the university’s strategic enrollment goals: Admissions, Enrollment Marketing (including the Admissions Welcome Center), Financial Aid, and Operations. In all, 75 staff members are part of the Office of Enrollment. We are supported in our recruitment efforts by partners across the university as well as over 100 student volunteers (AU Ambassadors and AU Diplomats) who host prospective students and conduct campus tours.

Summary/Objective

This position is one of two customer-facing positions that are responsible for greeting, assisting, and presenting to prospective students and families who visit the Welcome Center. This position will serve as a primary point of contact for the more than 26,000 annual visitors to the Welcome Center. During normal times, the Welcome Center offers two information sessions and tours per day. During high volume times, the Welcome Center offers four information sessions and tours per day. The Center coordinates almost 50 group visits per year. The incumbent is responsible for preparing the Welcome Center for opening each day by stocking literature, supplies and troubleshooting audio /visual or other problems that would impact a visitor’s experience. This position will assist with oversight of the current students in the AU Ambassadors Program.

Interacts with senior-level staff of the university and works with Admissions and Financial Aid staff to effectively promote the university and its programs and to meet Office of Enrollment goals.

This position reports directly to the Associate Director of On-Campus Programs. This position is one of staff support, with the aim of facilitating a successful campus visit experience for prospective students and their families. The staff member will also track visitor statistics. This position works under direct supervision.

Essential Functions
  1. Conducts information sessions for prospective students and their parents and participates in all on-campus recruitment events. On occasion, meets with prospective or admitted students and their families one-on-one to answer their questions.
  2. Checks in visitors for their tourandinformation session or interview to ensure that visitors meet with the proper contact person. Arranges visitors into groups and sends out tours. Matches prospective students with admissions staff for appointments. Distributes admissions literature and other materials to visitors. Tracks visitor statistics.
  3. Assists with answering general admissions phone calls and emails by supplementing the Admissions Call Center.
  4. Assists Associate Director with staff oversight of the AU Ambassadors Program.
  5. Maintains stock levels of admissions materials by ordering publications throughout the week. Orders office supplies.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Less than 1 year of relevant experience
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and problem solve under strict deadlines.
  • High level of customer service, public speaking, computer and writing and editing skills.
