Department Summary
The Division of Graduate Studies is the administrative office with ultimate responsibility for policy and procedures relevant to graduate education and graduate students. Its programs and services affect nearly 4,000 graduate students and almost 90 graduate degree programs. The Division of Graduate Studies' core purpose is to promote graduate education by fostering excellence, innovation, and inclusive communities. The Division of Graduate Studies values discovery, inclusiveness, service, fairness, responsibility, excellence, and community.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies, the Division of Graduate Studies Director of Diversity and Inclusion will develop, implement, manage, and evaluate initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in graduate education. The Director will work with stakeholders across campus and in our communities to develop graduate education initiatives that align with best practices in graduate education and students' needs. The Director will develop and manage recruitment initiatives and serve as a resource to departments by advising and consulting on best practices related to recruitment and retention, will develop and lead professional development and retention programming for underrepresented and under-served graduate student populations, and will create data tracking systems to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in graduate education.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree
- Three years of related experience
- Experience creating, leading, implementing, and evaluating
initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
Professional Competencies - Demonstrated understanding of the needs of underrepresented and
under-served graduate students and an understanding of, and a
commitment to, the importance of diversity, inclusion, and
equity
- Demonstrated ability to identify how policies and processes
create structural inequities
- Understanding of education research on underrepresented and
under-served student recruitment and retention
- Track record of success in diversity, equity, and inclusion
programming, including demonstrated and measurable results from
strategies and practices implemented
- Superior project management skills with a track record of
strategic planning, program implementation, and managing multiple
priorities within a complex environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience presenting to and engaging diverse audiences of
varying styles and backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to develop and grow collaborative
relationships with students, faculty, and staff across campus and
stakeholders in off-campus communities
- Demonstrated ability to define metrics and collect and analyze
data to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives
Preferred Qualifications - Graduate degree
- Leadership experience in working with and supporting
historically underrepresented groups
- Experience creating, leading, and implementing initiatives that
promote diversity and inclusion in higher education
- Experience with assessment and evaluation of initiatives that
promote diversity and inclusion in higher education
