Department Summary
The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 200 student staff and serves over 15,000 daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community, and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student-centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approves the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.
Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide operational support to the ID Card and Guest Services Office in the EMU. The Operations Assistant offers customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the public by addressing policy and procedure inquiries both in-person and via telephone and email, and by producing photo identification.

This position also supports the Guest Services desk which provides wayfinding, manages the building lost and found, and provides general information about building events and programming. Guest Services collaborates with many other campus units to disseminate information.

This position also works to schedule and coordinate operations with other university departments such as Registrar, Admissions, EMU, Public Safety, Library, and Housing.

The Operations Assistant also provides general office support for the department including organization and maintenance of filing systems, troubleshooting with campus printing centers and IT Services, and financial responsibilities including daily cash balancing, invoicing, tracking, and auditing.

The Operations Assistant is also responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating approximately 20-30 student employees.
Minimum Requirements
  • Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; and
  • Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills and demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Technological proficiency with experience troubleshooting basic equipment problems.
  • Experience supervising or leading the work of students or staff.
