The Opportunity
Penn State is a public, land-grant, research-intensive university with campuses and facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Founded in 1855, the university has a threefold mission of teaching, research, and public service. Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery. Annual enrollment at its 24 campuses totals more than 100,000 graduate and undergraduate students, making it one of the largest universities in the United States.

Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer (‘CHRO”) is a valued member of the President’s senior executive council. The CHRO will provide leadership across all human resources organizations and foster strategic collaborations that drive organizational effectiveness in support of the university’s mission and vision. The CHRO collaborates with Penn State’s academic, research, and administrative leaders as they exercise leadership in the care and development of people throughout the university and system. This highly visible leadership opportunity calls for an innovative, highly driven executive who is connected and engaged with faculty and staff, understands the range of employment conditions across the institution, and focused on contemporary human resource delivery practices.

The ideal candidate will have more than 10-years of HR leadership experience in higher education or other large, complex, decentralized organizations and have a background in talent acquisition and development, compensation, benefits, HRIS and employee relations. A bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred.
