Job Description

The School of Fine Arts at Missouri Western State University welcomes applications for a tenure-track art history position at the assistant professor level to begin in August 2022.

Assistant or Associate Professors are scholars that are experts in their field that teach college classes and can be defined as tenure-track or tenured faculty. They are responsible to educate students, engage in original research and creative activities that are published or presented in peer-reviewed settings.

The individual should be capable of teaching a wide range of art history courses at the undergraduate level. Teaching assignments to include introductory-level survey courses in addition to upper-level courses covering a wide range geographically and historically. The candidate should have interest in teaching general studies as well as working with digital animation and graphic design students. The position will also be in charge of general studies and art history minor assessments as well as curriculum planning and advancement. The successful candidate will teach an average of four courses per semester, maintain creative or scholarly activity in the area of expertise, participate in university and department committee work, and assist in student advising.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Faculty at Missouri Western teach typically three to four courses per Fall and Spring Semester, and are actively involved in advising and supervision of student applied learning.

• Teaching: teach undergraduate and graduate students in a specific field of expertise; participation in programs that promote instructional development in the discipline; develop and manage curricular materials, ensuring that they meet departmental and university standards; participation in campus initiatives related to teaching such as learning communities, honors programs, and applied learning.

• Scholarship: engage in scholarly and creative activities leading to peer-reviewed artifacts, performances, and/or exhibitions including basic research or creative expression, reviews and/or integrates prior research, applies current knowledge and innovations to important practices, and focuses on the nature and improvement of teaching.

• Service: document students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade; plan and create lectures, in-class activities, and assignments; maintain currency in one’s area of expertise and discipline; provide academic advising and support related to the academic progress of students; is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success; engage in service activities in support of departmental, college, and university needs; service supporting community outreach; and service to relevant professional organizations; participate in student recruitment efforts as assigned.

• Have a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, and strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to use instructional technologies in support of student learning and professional collaboration
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
• Excellent teaching skills with an ability to coordinate with the faculties and students from diverse cultural backgrounds
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to multitask
• Ability to engage large groups of people with complicated material
• Able to teach with appropriate real-world experience
• Able to demonstrate confidence teaching and presenting in a public forum
• Technologically adept: can utilize electronic communications, online learning management systems, and other forms of technology related to the position
• Passionate about specific academic fields and education in general
• Clearly understands curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcomes assessment

Required Qualifications

• Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Art History
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred experience with online instruction and/or integration of instructional technology in course delivery.
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience teaching in face to face and virtual settings
• Experience teaching courses in Music History at the undergraduate level
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-bias in education, and a knowledge and interest in how they relate to academic music curricula
